Some individuals are susceptible to the experience of chronic stress and others more resilient. While many brain regions implicated in learning dysregulated after stress, little is known about whether how neural teaching signals during differ between resilient individuals. Here, we seek determine if activity lateral habenula (LHb), which encodes a negative signal, differs mice produce different outcomes. After, but not before, social defeat (CSDS), LHb active when proximity aggressor strain. During itself, higher proximity, activation biases towards susceptibility. This manipulation generates persistent widespread increase balance subcortical versus cortical mice. Taken together, our results indicate that heightened produces lasting brainwide behavioral substrates

Mesolimbic dopamine encoding of non-contingent rewards and reward-predictive cues has been well established. Considerable debate remains over how mesolimbic responds to aversion in the context aversive conditioning. Inconsistencies may arise from use stimuli that are transduced along different neural paths relative reward or conflation responses avoidance aversion. Here, we made intraoral infusions sucrose measured behavioral varied changing valence sucrose. Pairing with malaise via injection lithium chloride (LiCl) caused development a conditioned taste (CTA), which rendered typically rewarding upon subsequent re-exposure. Following CTA formation, suppressed activity ventral tegmental area neurons (VTA DA ) nucleus accumbens (NAc) release. This pattern signaling after is similar innately quinine contrasts when it was novel not paired LiCl. Dopamine were negatively correlated reactivity predicted home cage preference. Further, scaled strength CTA, increased by repeated LiCl pairings weakened through extinction. Thus, findings demonstrate differential same stimulus according its valence, aligned distinct responses.

Spike sorting is the process of parsing electrophysiological signals from neurons to identify if, when, and which particular fire. a particularly difficult task in computational neuroscience due growing scale recording technologies complexity traditional spike algorithms. Abstract Hunger increases the motivation for calorie consumption, often at expense of low‐taste appeal. However, neural mechanisms integrating calorie‐sensing with increased consumption remain unknown. Agouti‐related peptide (AgRP) neurons in arcuate nucleus hypothalamus sense hunger, and ingestion caloric solutions promotes dopamine release absence sweet taste perception. Therefore, we hypothesised that metabolic‐sensing hunger by AgRP would be essential to promote accumbens response caloric, but not non‐caloric solutions. Moreover, examined whether metabolic sensing affected preference bitter under conditions energy need. Here show impaired attenuated sucrose, saccharin, consumption. Furthermore, was distinguish sucrose when compared saccharin. Under laced tastant, quinine, ensure whereas mice maintained a strong aversion sucrose/quinine despite ongoing hunger. In conclusion, demonstrate normal drives primarily needed, engaging accumbens.
