Abstract
Long
COVID,
or
Post-Acute
COVID
Syndrome
(PACS),
may
develop
following
SARS-CoV-2
infection,
posing
a
substantial
burden
to
society.
Recently,
PACS
has
been
linked
persistent
activation
of
the
complement
system
(CS),
offering
hope
for
both
diagnostic
tool
and
targeted
therapy.
However,
our
findings
indicate
that,
after
adjusting
proteomics
data
age,
body
mass
index
sex
imbalances,
evidence
disappears.
Furthermore,
proteomic
analysis
two
orthogonal
cohorts—one
addressing
severe
acute
phase
another
mild
phase—fails
support
notion
CS
activation.
Instead,
we
identify
signature
indicative
either
ongoing
infections
sustained
immune
similar
that
observed
in
COVID-19,
particularly
within
mild-PACS
cohort.

Abstract
Aging
is
a
fundamental
risk
factor
for
wide
array

diseases.

Berlin
Study
II
(BASE-II)
cohort
study
designed
to
investigate
the
physical,
mental,
and
social
determinants

mass
spectrometry
