Abstract
Neuropeptides
are
ubiquitous
intercellular
signaling
molecules
in
the
CNS
and
play
diverse
roles
modulating
physiological
functions
by
acting
on
specific
G-protein
coupled
receptors
(GPCRs).
Among
them,
elevenin
system
is
now
believed
to
be
present
primarily
protostomes.
Although
was
first
identified
from
L11
neuron
of
abdominal
ganglion
mollusc
Aplysia
californica
,
no
have
been
described
nor
any
other
molluscs.
Here,
using
two
annelid
Platynereis
dumerilii
we
found
three
putative
GPCRs
.
We
cloned
tentatively
named
them
apElevR1,
apElevR2,
apElevR3.
Using
an
inositol
monophosphate
(IP1)
accumulation

demonstrated

extracted

central
nervous
system
Aplysia

long-term
sensitization
(LTS)
training
induced
when
injected
into
untrained
animals;

to

in

This
review
describes

advantages

molluscan
complementary
model,
freshwater
snail
Lymnaea
stagnalis,
to
study
neural
basis
learning
and
memory
in
appetitive
avoidance
classical
conditioning;
as

operant
conditioning
its
aerial
respiratory
escape
behaviour.
We
firstly
explored
'what
we
can
teach
Lymnaea'
by
discussing
variety
sensitive,
solid,
easily
reproducible
simple
behavioural
tests
that
have
been
used
uncover
abilities
this
model
system.
Answering
question
will
allow
us

new
frontiers

our
understanding

nervous
