Random packings of stiff rods are self-supporting mechanical structures stabilized by long-range interactions induced contacts. To understand the geometrical and topological complexity packings, we first deploy X-ray computerized tomography to unveil structure packing. This allows us directly visualize spatial variations in density, orientational order, entanglement, a mesoscopic field that define terms local average crossing number, measure We find increasing aspect ratio constituent packing leads proliferation regions strong entanglement eventually percolate through system correlated with sharp transition stability corroborate our experimental findings, use numerical simulations contacting elastic characterize their static dynamic loadings. Our experiments computations lead an phase diagram which also populate using published data from pneumatically tangled filaments, worm blobs, bird nests along additional these datasets.
