Purpose Quality management (QM) plays a pivotal role in driving organisational efforts to enhance operational efficiency and customer satisfaction. This study aims explore the most important themes QM over past three decades, identifying analysing top ten key that have shaped field during this period. study, involving leading academics industry practitioners, lays groundwork for three-to-four-year exploration of influential worldwide. Design/methodology/approach The authors conducted comprehensive review literature last decades from specialist journals on QM. is followed by conducting global pilot survey with practitioners pinpoint dominant organisations leverage gaining maintaining competitive edge. Findings QM, as identified through input worldwide, offer valuable insights companies all sizes sectors. Purpose This study investigates the alignment of quality management (QM) practices with sustainability dimensions to achieve United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs) in Indian industries. The how these industries utilise QM tools advance sustainability, mainly focusing on environmental, social, governance, economic and operational sustainability. Design/methodology/approach A multiple-case approach was employed, analysing 41 case studies submitted International Academy for Quality (IAQ) Sustainability Award. data were collected from various analysed through within-case cross-case comparisons, applying their dimensions. research methodology utilised both qualitative quantitative analysis techniques. Findings findings reveal that predominantly use Six Sigma, lean tools, PDCA root cause (RCA) address environmental challenges. most frequently addressed UNSDGs include Goal 12 (Responsible Consumption Production), 9 (Industry Innovation Infrastructure) 13 (Climate Action). Significant improvements observed defect reduction, energy efficiency cost management. However, also highlights gaps addressing social particularly areas like diversity inclusion. Practical implications provides practitioners insights aligning initiatives ensure excellence while For policymakers, need regulatory frameworks supporting QM, emphasising responsibility mandates.
