Microwaves can safely and non-destructively illuminate penetrate dielectric materials, making them an attractive solution for various medical tasks, including detection, diagnosis, classification, monitoring. Their inherent electromagnetic properties, portability, cost-effectiveness, the growth in computing capabilities have encouraged development of numerous microwave sensing imaging systems field, with potential to complement or even replace current gold-standard methods. This review aims provide a comprehensive update on latest advances applications microwaves, particularly focusing near-field ones working within 1-15 GHz frequency range. It specifically examines significant strides clinical devices brain stroke diagnosis breast cancer screening, continuous blood glucose The technical implementation algorithmic aspects prototypes are discussed detail, transceiver systems, radiating elements (such as antennas sensors), algorithms.
