Rhodomyrtus tomentosa fruits, endemic to the Western Ghats were analyzed for its free, bound and esterified phenolics by Ultra High Performance Liquid Chromatography–Mass Spectrometry. Overall, twenty-nine phenolic compounds identified, amongst them 18 detected in this fruit first time. Abstract Chinese bayberry ( Myrica rubra Sieb. et Zucc.) fruit (CBF) is widely growing in eastern Asia, mainly China. CBFs contain a high number of polyphenols, especially anthocyanins. This research explored the potential of plant antimicrobial compounds as natural alternatives to synthetic antimicrobials in food and pharmaceutical industries, emphasizing urgent need combat resistance.
