Mora Romagnola is an autochthonous pig breed, raised in the north of Italy. Mono-breed pork products this breed are part important niche value chain that intrinsically linked to conservation local genetic resources can only survive due premium price these obtain on market. However, added attracts fraudsters unscrupulously sell mis-labelled products, causing consumer distrust that, turn, undermines strategy breed. To monitor and better characterise we phenotyped 826 pigs for three breed-specific traits. Then, genotyped almost all living sows boars registered Herd Book (n. = 357 animals) polymorphisms MC1R NR6A1 genes (affecting coat colour vertebral number, respectively). The results were used re-define descriptors Romagnala included information allowed genotypes at two genes. A few did not carry excluded from its Book. Finally, evaluated usefulness DNA markers authenticate meat against derived other 11 breeds wild boars. our knowledge, one first examples established a direct link between standard with possibility mono-breed using specific purpose combat frauds and, indirectly, support livestock resource.

Crossbreeding might be a valid strategy to valorize local pig breeds. should reduce homozygosity and, as consequence, yield hybrid vigor for fitness and production traits. This study aimed quantify the persistence of autozygosity in terminal crossbred pigs compared with purebreds turn, identify genomic regions where autozygosity's would not found. The was based on genotyping data from 20 European breeds three cosmopolitan used simulate offspring. consisted two steps. First, one hundred matings were simulated each pairwise combination 23 considered (for total 276 combinations), ignoring sex parent individuals order generate purebred leveraging all germplasm available. Second, few preselected terminal-maternal breed pairs mimic realistic crossbreeding system: (i) Mora Romagnola (boars) or Cinta Senese crossed Large White (sows) Landrace (sows); (ii) Duroc (sows). Runs estimate genome-wide (FROH). Observed FROH higher than crossbreds, although some combinations showed other combinations. Among purebreds, highest values observed Turopolje (0.50 0.46, respectively). ranged 0.04 0.16 crossbreds Alentejana × Iberian, respectively. Persistence found several segments harboring quantitative trait loci (QTLs) literature. enriched QTLs involved fatty acid metabolism associated performance simulation shows that persists most crosses. Abstract Inbreeding and loss of genetic diversity are serious problems in local Chinese pig breeds. Runs homozygosity (ROHs) contiguous lengths homozygous genotypes that can provide information on inbreeding levels, mating schemes, selection pressure, events. The Anqing six‐end‐white (AQ) pig, an important autochthonous breed bred the Anhui province China, plays a key role industry. In recent decades, AQ pigs have become closed with small population size conservation farms, raising issue decline. this study, we used 10× resequencing to detect whole genome 24 six Asian wild boars (AWBs). We Plink software analyze distribution ROHs based data. obtained 935.04 Gb raw data from results more than 45 822 239 SNPs. Additionally, identified 28 702 ROHs. Compared AWB, had higher ROH numbers, longer rates, F values, which revealed artificial influenced level. A total 307 205 islands were AWBs respectively. genes mainly enriched immune biological processes. Our findings useful reference for developing breeding programs maintain germplasm resources pigs.

Runs of homozygosity (ROH) are widely used to estimate genomic inbreeding, which is linked inbreeding depression on phenotypes. However, the adverse effects specific homozygous regions phenotypic characteristics rarely studied in livestock. In this study, 50 K SNP data 3,770 S21 Duroc (American origin) and 2,096 S22 (Canadian pigs were investigate harmful ROH five economic traits. The results showed that two lines had different numbers distributions unfavorable ROHs, may be related selection directions intensities between lines. A total 114 58 segments found with significant traits pigs, respectively. Serval pleiotropic ROHs detected reduce or multiple performances populations. Candidate genes these shared mainly growth, fertility, immunity, fat deposition. We also observed some genotypes cause opposite This study not only enhances our understanding phenotypes, but indicates information could incorporated into breeding programs control detrimental regions.

Celtic-Iberian pig breeds were majority in Spain and Portugal until the first half of 20th century. In 1990s, they nearly extinct as a result introduction foreign improved breeds. Despite its historical importance, genetic background strain is poorly documented. this study, we have identified genomic regions that might contain signatures selection peculiar lineage. A total 153 DNA samples pigs (Spanish Gochu Asturcelta Portuguese Bísara breeds), Iberian Alentejano Cinta Senese pig, Korean local Cosmopolitan (Hampshire, Landrace Large White individuals) analysed. pairwise-comparison approach was applied: test populations five other reference populations. Three different statistics (XP-EHH, FST ΔDAF) computed on each comparison. Strict criteria used to identify sweeps order reduce noise brought by breeds' severe population bottlenecks. Within population, SNPs construct potential candidate areas under only considered if four ten two-by-two pairwise comparisons at least two three statistics. Genomic constructed within subsequently overlapped putatively unique strain. These finally for enrichment analyses. 39 regions, mainly located SSC5 SSC9 covering 3130.5 kb, could be representative ancient Enrichment analysis allowed seven genes (NOL12, LGALS1, PDXP, SH3BP1, GGA1, WIF1, LYPD6). Other studies reported WIF1 gene associated with ear size, one characteristic traits The function related reproduction, adaptation immunity traits, indirectly fitting rusticity non-improved traditionally exploited semi-extensive conditions.
