Abstract Aim Recruitment of renal functional reserve (RFR) with amino acid loading increases blood flow and glomerular filtration rate. However, its effects on cortical medullary oxygenation have not been determined. Accordingly, we tested the recruitment RFR in non‐anesthetized sheep. Methods Under general anesthesia, instrumented 10 sheep to enable subsequent continuous measurements systemic hemodynamics, oxygen delivery consumption, tissue tension (PO 2 ). We then measured an intravenous infusion 500 ml a clinically used solution (10% Synthamin® 17) state. Results Compared baseline, 17 significantly increased mean ± SD maximum increase: (from 0.79 0.17 1.06 0.16 ml/kg/min, p < 0.001), consumption 0.08 0.01 0.15 0.02 rate (+45.2 2.7%, 0.001). Renal PO by 26.4 1.1% ( = 0.001) 23.9 2.8% 0. 001). Conclusions In healthy sheep, improved oxygenation. These observations might implications for use diagnostic therapeutic purposes.

Oxygen is required to sustain aerobic organisms. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) are constantly released during mitochondrial consumption for energy production. Any imbalance between ROS production and its scavenger system induces oxidative stress. Oxidative stress, a critical contributor tissue damage, well-known be associated with various diseases. The kidney susceptible hypoxia, renal hypoxia common final pathway end stage disease, regardless of the underlying cause. Abstract Objectives This study aimed at developing technical recommendations for the acquisition, processing and analysis of renal ASL data in human kidney 1.5 T 3 field strengths that can promote standardization perfusion measurements facilitate comparability results across scanners multi-centre clinical studies. Methods An international panel 23 experts followed a modified Delphi process, including on-line surveys two in-person meetings, to formulate series consensus statements regarding patient preparation, hardware, acquisition protocol, steps reporting. Results Fifty-nine achieved consensus, while agreement could not be reached on related preparation. As default recommends pseudo-continuous (PCASL) or flow-sensitive alternating inversion recovery (FAIR) labelling with single-slice spin-echo EPI readout background suppression simple but robust quantification model. Discussion approach is considered reproducible provide images adequate quality SNR most applications. If extended coverage desirable, 2D multislice recommended. Abstract Harmonization of acquisition and analysis protocols is an important step in the validation BOLD MRI as a renal biomarker. This harmonization initiative provides technical recommendations based on consensus report with aim to move towards standardized that facilitate clinical translation comparison data across sites. We used recently published systematic review paper, which included detailed summary parameters areas investigation its supplementary material, starting point developing survey questionnaires for seeking consensus. Survey were collected via Delphi process from 24 researchers exam preparation, acquisition, analysis, interpretation. Consensus was defined ≥ 75% unanimity response. Among 31 questions, 14 achieved resolution, 12 showed clear respondent preference (65–74% agreement), 5 equal (50/50%) split opinion among respondents. Recommendations subject processing reporting are given results literature. These aimed increased inter-site harmonization, first standardization expect this be iterative updated dynamically progress field.

Glomerular filtration rate (GFR) is acutely increased following a high-protein meal or systemic infusion of amino acids. The mechanisms underlying this renal functional response remain to be fully elucidated. Nevertheless, they appear culminate in preglomerular vasodilation. Inhibition the tubuloglomerular feedback signal appears critical. However, nitric oxide, vasodilator prostaglandins, and glucagon also important. increase GFR during acid reveals “renal reserve,” which can utilized when physiological demand for single nephron increases.
