Importantly, often precedes and predicts fatal nonfatal suicide attempts, thus it is critical better understand factors that increase risk for inform prevention efforts in this population. One key predictor exposure traumatic experiences their sequelae, particularly posttraumatic stress symptoms (PTSS). However, little work has explored how deficits well‐being contribute association among veterans. We tested two aspects well‐being—meaning life gratitude—as potential mechanisms underlying the pathway from PTSS 7,388 men women who recently separated service. A parallel mediation analysis revealed significant paths more severe frequent through diminished meaning life, B = 0.005, SE 0.001, 95% CI [0.004, 0.007], gratitude, [< 0.002]. Gender differences were also observed. Although results related appeared replicate across gender, pathways involving gratitude differed women. Overall, our findings suggest helping build appreciation everyday may be a proactive holistic approach prevention.
