Abstract Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) refers to chronic inflammatory disorders of the gut. Ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn’s (CD) are two subtypes IBD. Evidence suggests that intestinal microbiota plays a role in pathogenesis IBD, so probiotics have garnered lot interest as potential treatment or prevention for However, clinical evidence efficacy is still debatable. We performed literature review. An advanced search considered studies on probiotic IBD from inception 2023 PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, Web Science. In UC with probiotics, only Escherichia coli Nissle 1917 maintenance remission, Bifidobacterium VSL#3 induction remission patients mild moderately active shown strong evidence. Currently, there no definitive conclusions regarding effectiveness CD. The mechanism may be related reducing oxidative stress, repairing barrier, regulating flora balance, modulating immune response. Differences benefits between CD attributable different lesion extent immune-mediated pathophysiology. More robust randomized trials required validate safety diverse strains

In this editorial, we comment on the article by Marangoni et al , published in recent issue of World Journal Gastroenterology 2023; 29: 5618-5629, about “Diet as an epigenetic factor inflammatory bowel disease”. The authors emphasized role diet, especially interaction with genetics, promoting process disease (IBD) patients, focusing DNA methylation, histone modifications, and influence microRNAs. explore between gut microbiota, only way. Furthermore, provided dietary recommendations for patients IBD. Western characterized a low fiber content deficiency micronutrients, impacts short-chain fatty acids production may be related to pathogenesis On other hand, consumption Mediterranean diet fibers are associated reduced risk IBD flares, particularly Crohn’s (CD) patients. According guidance from International Organization Study Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (IOIBD), regular fruits vegetables while reducing saturated, trans, dairy fat, additives, processed foods rich maltodextrins, artificial sweeteners containing sucralose or saccharine is recommended CD For ulcerative colitis, IOIBD recommends increased intake natural sources omega-3 follows same restrictive aimed at possible inclusion red meats. conclusion, complex heterogeneous disease, future studies needed elucidate epigenetics microbiota

An increasing amount of evidence suggests that gastrointestinal diseases are risk factors for herpes zoster (HZ) and postherpetic neuralgia (PHN). Among them, the gut microbiota may play a crucial role in this process. Therefore, study aims to explore potential causal association between HZ PHN.

The gut microbiome is a dynamic ecosystem shaped by various factors, including diet, sex, and environment. This system plays crucial role in host health, such that perturbation the form of antibiotics can lead to vast array negative outcomes. Accordingly, growing body work seeks develop interventions protect during antibiotic exposure. While it well established disrupt short term, how impact modulated factors as environment poorly understood. In this study, we analyzed diet early life (vendor origin) modulate recovery mice treated with oral amoxicillin. Utilizing 16S rRNA gene sequencing bioinformatic analyses, looked at response under high-sugar high-fat (Western) standard high-fiber mouse (Chow) diets male female C57BL/6 from Jackson Laboratory, Charles River Laboratories. composition each set had distinct pre-antibiotic starting point, depending on vendor, diet. These differences were further exacerbated exposure revealed group responded differently perturbation. particular, found Western an greater changes alpha, beta diversity, microbial when compared antibiotic-treated Chow cohort. detected blooms Enterobacteriaceae , Streptococcaceae Peptostreptococcaceae not also appeared be vendor sex dependent. less Bifidobacteriaceae Clostridia_UCG.014 Clostridiaceae Laboratory females while more Bacteroides Bilophila Parasutterella mice. narrow sense, these findings underscore importance considering source, examining antibiotics’ broader implications suggest will likely need utilize patient-specific microbiome-informed approaches development human therapeutics safeguard
