Older adults represent the major target population for oral medications, due to high prevalence of multimorbidity. To allow successful pharmacological treatments, patients need adhere their medication and, thus, patient-centric drug products with a level acceptability by end users are needed. However, knowledge on appropriate size and shape solid dosage forms, as most commonly used forms in older adults, is still scarce. A randomized intervention study was performed including 52 (65 94 years) young (19 36 years). Each participant swallowed four coated placebo tablets differing weight (250 1000 mg) (oval, round, oblong) blinded manner three days. The choice tablet dimensions allowed systematic comparison between different sizes same shape, well shapes. Swallowability assessed using questionnaire-based method. All tested were ≥80% independent age. only 250 mg oval classified swallowable old participants. true participants; however, they also considered round 500 swallowable. Furthermore, swallowability seen influence willingness take daily basis, especially an intake over longer time periods.

Solid oral dosage forms (SODFs) (often called pills by patients) are the default formulation to treat medical ailments. Beneficial therapeutic outcomes rely on patients taking them as directed. Up 40% of population experience difficulties swallowing SODFs, resulting in reduced adherence and impaired efficacy. Often associated with children, this also presents adults dysphagia, without any organic dysphagia (non-physiological-related or functional dysphagia). This review aims identify appraise current interventions used screen for overcome pill aversion dysphagia. A comprehensive search literature was conducted. Articles reporting aged ≥18 years no underlying cause, history of, existing were included. Study quality determined using STROBE tool observational studies. narrative synthesis findings prepared. We identified 18 relevant cohort studies, which demonstrate that is a global problem. Perceived ease and/or SODF swallowability appears be influenced female gender, younger age, co-morbidities (e.g., depression), physical properties. Patients often modify their medicines rather than raise issue healthcare team. Screening haphazard but controlled postural adjustments, coating SODFs behavioural appear successful solutions. barrier effective medication use. Background: Rani Therapeutics is developing a robotic pill (RP), an oral drug delivery platform called RaniPill ™ that can deliver number of biotherapeutics with high bioavailability; eliminating the need for injections. While patients in general prefer to injectable therapies, preference more frequent regimen compared less unknown. Two marketing surveys were conducted gather data on versus therapies. A clinical study gathered participant pills vs injections before and after swallowing Mock-RP capsule. Methods: total 1689 adults taking (mean duration 3– 7 years) treat endocrine or inflammatory conditions anonymously surveyed online their administer/prescribe medications orally via RP. In study, 150 participants currently chronic evaluated swallowability completed questionnaire regarding preferences. Results: Majority respondents stated they would be willing convert alternative over current parenteral therapy regardless disease. all able swallow 91% indicated route administration. Survey those using select once-daily capsule injecting infrequently. Even who inject infrequently (≥monthly: 80%) injection regimen. Conclusion: Patients prescribing physicians strongly dosing administration biologics even if frequency option, such as RP, increased. Keywords: delivery, biotherapeutic, pill,

The determinants of antimicrobial prescribing often involve social influence, which can be harnessed through behaviour change techniques (BCTs). While previous studies have used BCTs to address resistance, there is a lack evidence regarding their application climate change-related issues in antibiotic prescribing. This study aimed develop intervention (BCI) using information about greenhouse gas emissions reduce liquid A convenience sample participants from primary care practice North East England participated semi-structured interviews. design was guided by the Theoretical Domains Framework (TDF) and Capability, Opportunity, Motivation - Behaviour (COM-B) model. Swallowability, visual perception, and any handling to be conducted prior use are all influence factors on the acceptability of an oral dosage form by patient. Knowing preferences older adults, as major group medication end users, is needed for patient-centric drug development. This study aimed at evaluating ability adults handle tablets well assess anticipated swallowability tablets, capsules, mini based perception. The randomized intervention included 52 (65 94 years) younger (19 36 years). Within tested ranging from 125 mg up 1000 in weight being different shapes, was not seen limiting factor decision appropriate tablet size. However, smallest sized were rated worst. According limit acceptable size reached around 250 adults. For this shifted higher weights dependent shape. Differences with respect shapes most pronounced 500 750 weight, independent age category.
