COVID-19 lockdowns limited access to gambling but simultaneously elevated psychosocial stressors. This study assessed the relative effects of these changes on risk status during and after Australian lockdown from late-March late-May 2020. The administered three surveys people who had gambled within past year at T1. Wave 1 asked about before (T1, N = 2,125) (T2, 2,125). Subsequent focused one (T3; 649) two years (T4, 458). dependent variable was in reporting any problem symptoms (PGSI 0 vs 1+). Bivariate analyses multinomial logistic regression tested for significant associations with: demographics, stressors (perceived stress, psychological distress, loneliness, health anxiety COVID, financial hardship, stressful life events), participation frequency. Gambling at-risk decreased between T1 T2, increased T3, with little further change T4. When availability curtailed, frequency EGMs, casino games, sports betting or race betting, lower were associated transitions non-problem gambling. resumed, EGM frequency, online higher stress appears a stronger influence problems, population level, than factors. Reducing supply high-risk products, particularly is likely reduce harm.

It is widely recognised that the COVID-19 pandemic has negatively impacted individuals' mental health. However, little emphasis been put on possible influence of socio-economic factors in relationship. In context pandemic, our objectives were (i) to assess relationship between education level and health French adults, (ii) study economic, social, COVID-19-related men women respectively.Data are from 32,581 individuals representative population who responded weekly survey "Baromètre COVID-19" April 7th May 31st 2020. Education was self-reported (university degree, high school qualification, vocational certificate/qualification, no diploma). Anxiety-depressive state derived four items related frequency occurrence depressive anxiety symptoms, summarized an overall validated anxiety-depressive score. Multivariate linear regression analyses carried out with nested adjustments variables contexts state. In total, 45% reported symptoms (53% versus 36% men). Among men, those a certificate/qualification diploma had greater risk having higher compared university degree (βVocational = 0.16 [0.04; 0.27]; βNo 0.75 [0.43; 1.07]) while among women, increased as decreased (βBaccalaureate 0.37 [0.25; 0.49]; βVocational 0.41 [0.28; 0.54]; 0.8 [0.49; 1.12]). For both health, partly attenuate these associations social marginally modified After accounting for confounders intermediate variables, absence remained associated whole educational gradient persisted women. In France, at end first wave COVID-19, lower state. This association more pronounced highlighting process inequality possibly gender. should be considered future prevention public interventions.

Since the start of COVID-19 pandemic in early 2020, governments around world have adopted an array measures intended to control transmission SARS-CoV-2 virus, using both pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical interventions (NPIs). NPIs are public health that do not rely on vaccines or medicines include policies such as lockdowns, stay-at-home orders, school closures, travel restrictions. Although intention was slow viral transmission, emerging research indicates these also had unintended consequences for other aspects health. Hence, we conducted a narrative review studies investigating NPIs, with particular emphasis mental lifestyle risk factors non-communicable diseases (NCD): physical activity (PA), overweight obesity, alcohol consumption, tobacco smoking. We reviewed scientific literature combinations search terms ‘COVID-19′, ‘pandemic’, ‘lockdowns’, ‘mental health’, ‘physical activity’, ‘obesity’. were found considerable adverse health, activity, obesity. The impacts consumption varied greatly within between studies. variability different groups implies increased inequalities by age, sex/gender, socioeconomic status, pre-existing lifestyle, place residence. In conclusion, proper assessment use attempts spread should be weighed against potential Our findings relevance future preparedness response teams.

Abstract Objectives: To assess the prevalence of neuropsychiatric symptoms 2 years after COVID-19 acute phase and to identify biobehavioral risk factors. Methods: This 2-year prospective study assessed adult individuals with via face-to-face interview laboratory testing at onset, telephone follow-up. Data collected included severity management as well depression, anxiety, insomnia, cognitive failure, fatigue follow-up using standardized assessment tools. Results: Out 1,067 screened patients, 230 completed (female, 53.5%; aged>40, 80.9%; native Italian, 94.9%; medical comorbidity, chronic medication, 46.3%; moderate severe COVID-19, 24.9%; hospital admission, 28.7%; ICU, 5.2%). At follow-up, 9.1% had 11.3% 18.3% 39.1% fatigue, clinical relevance. Headache (OR = 2.49, 95% CI 1.01–6.16, p 0.048), dyspnea 2.55, 1.03–6.31, 0.043), number 1.23, 1.01–1.51, 0.047) onset were associated anxiety follow-up; was depression 2.80, 1.22–6.41, 0.015); comorbidities insomnia 1.48, 1.06–2.08, 0.022); female gender 2.39, 1.14–5.00, 0.020) 1.20, 1.02–1.42, 0.026) failure 1.33, 1.03–1.73, 0.029) 1.19, 1.04-1.37, 0.013) raised interleukin 6 levels ( OR 4.02, 1.42–11.36, 0.009) Conclusions: survivors, especially if female, preexisting health problems, a more phase, may present long-lasting sequalae, urging interventions sustain recovery particularly in these higher individuals.

Background: In response to the rising mental health concerns and cognitive decline associated with human brain’s neurogenesis, which continues until tenth decade of life but declines age is suppressed by poor environments, this pilot study investigates how physical environments may influence public proxy measures neurogenesis in humans. This focuses on residential environment where people spend most their time place, exploring dependency depression, anxiety, impairment variations spatial lifestyle variables. Methods: A total 142 healthy adults England completed a survey consisting PHQ-8, GAD-7, CFI questionnaires other questions developed capture variance factors such as spent at home, house type layout complexity, spaciousness, activity, routine novelty, perceived loneliness. Results: Extensive home has adverse effects all measures, while multi-storey houses perform better than single-story positive correlations activity novelty. Separate regression models salient dependent variable reliably reveal that getting out explains 20.5% depression symptoms. At scale house, explain 16.5% variance. Both percentages are closer effect loneliness, we found 26.6% depression. Conclusions: The built appears be significantly changes function symptoms neurogenesis. shows equally important social enrichment, offering critically needed insights for neuroarchitecture brain research interested health.
