Abstract
Intervertebral
disc
(IVD)
degeneration
can
cause
low
back
and
neck
pain.
In
IVD
degeneration,
the
most
affected
component
of
IVDs
is
nucleus
pulposus
(NP).
Derived
from
notochord,
where
cells
organize
into
a
tandem
configuration,
NP
contains
clustered
in
3-dimensional
(3D)
networks
embedded
gelatinous
matrix.
Here,
we
summarize
current
understanding
development,
homeostasis,
physiology,
as
well
roles
cell
adhesion
molecule
N-cadherin
these
processes.
We
hypothesize
that
contributes
to
architectural
transition
notochord
by
switching
mediating
orientational
adhesions
(OCAs)
random
OCAs.
The
3D
clustering
may
facilitate
act
mechanosensor
modulate
gene
expression
under
mechanical
stresses.
also
highlight
some
open
questions
on
functions
NP.
Answering
helps
with
developing
measures
prevent
treat
degeneration.

Neurulation
occurs
by
two
different
mechanisms,
called
primary
and
secondary
neurulation.
In
humans,
neurulation
along
most
of
the
rostrocaudal
axis
embryo,
while
caudally,
only
in
lower
sacral
coccygeal
regions.
Primary
is
responsible
for
a
change
neural
plate
shape,
lateral
edges
which
rise
then
converge
at
dorsal
midline
to
merge
into
tube.
Initially,
tube,

as

neurulation,
open
both
ends
through
so-called
rostral
caudal
neuropores.
These
neuropores
connect
inner
part
tube
with
environment
(amniotic
cavity)

(by
