A diverse array of animals use a multidimensional acoustic space as primary source communication, especially in habitats where other signals are limited. However, complex habitats, species must contend with co-occurring to send their message backdrop ambient noise. This is exacerbated closely related that occur sympatry, and we do not know how learn vocalization have repertoires partition space. In this study, studied four group birds, the drongos, tropical evergreen forest South Asia. We made field vocal recordings well estimated song perch heights from December 2018-April 2019. Using ordination methods like PCA LDA, find wide overlap sympatric drongos. We, however, drongos segregate vertically. hypothesize owing ability mimic species, which increases signal breadth. With land use change rapidly increasing in Asia, conservation prioritization has emerged as an important tool identifying critical landscapes for biodiversity to safeguard them from human pressures. In Peninsular Malaysia, the Malaysian Nature Society (MNS/BirdLife Malaysia) developed a set of Criteria identify Important Hornbill Landscapes (IHLs) – hornbill hotspots which are priority sites Malaysia and serve inform planning action. Application so far been restricted thus this study, we adapt it Sarawak, state Borneo that supports 80% species diversity country. We expand on methodology using Maximum Entropy Species Distribution Modelling (MaxEnt), validate Criteria's applicability potential IHLs Sarawak. Our data sources included literature reviews, citizen science databases interviews. Expectedly, survey effort was spatially biased. identified eight IHLs, mostly concentrated eastern across national parks, wildlife sanctuaries forest management units. Existing published distribution habitats Sarawak corroborated with our MaxEnt outputs aligned results IHL Criteria-based assessment, validating latter supporting its additionally six based confirmed value pairing such exercise. To knowledge, study not only demonstrates significance combining identification, but also represents first application outside Malaysia. findings can, therefore, case future applications potentially other parts Asia.
