With
land
use
change
rapidly
increasing
in
Asia,
conservation
prioritization
has
emerged
as
an
important
tool
identifying
critical
landscapes
for
biodiversity
to
safeguard
them
from
human
pressures.
In
Peninsular
Malaysia,
the
Malaysian
Nature
Society
(MNS/BirdLife
Malaysia)
developed
a
set
of
Criteria
identify
Important
Hornbill
Landscapes
(IHLs)
–
hornbill
hotspots
which
are
priority
sites
Malaysia
and
serve
inform
planning
action.
Application
so
far
been
restricted
thus
this
study,
we
adapt
it
Sarawak,
state
Borneo
that
supports
80%
species
diversity
country.
We
expand
on
methodology
using
Maximum
Entropy
Species
Distribution
Modelling
(MaxEnt),
validate
Criteria's
applicability
potential
IHLs
Sarawak.
Our
data
sources
included
literature
reviews,
citizen
science
databases
interviews.
Expectedly,
survey
effort
was
spatially
biased.
identified
eight
IHLs,
mostly
concentrated
eastern
across
national
parks,
wildlife
sanctuaries
forest
management
units.
Existing
published
distribution
habitats
Sarawak
corroborated
with
our
MaxEnt
outputs
aligned
results
IHL
Criteria-based
assessment,
validating
latter
supporting
its
additionally
six
based
confirmed
value
pairing
such
exercise.
To
knowledge,
study
not
only
demonstrates
significance
combining
identification,
but
also
represents
first
application
outside
Malaysia.

future
applications

A
diverse
array
of
animals
use
a
multidimensional
acoustic
space

primary
source
communication,
especially
in
habitats
where
other
signals
are
limited.
However,
complex
habitats,
species
must
contend
with
co-occurring

their
