Abstract The textile and apparel sector, particularly denim treatment facilities (DTFs), is responsible for significant environmental impacts, especially in water-scarce regions like Pernambuco, Brazil. This study explores the drivers barriers to sustainability-oriented innovation (SOI) small medium-sized DTFs, aligning with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, Infrastructure) 12 (Responsible Consumption Production). Using a mixed-methods approach, research initially conducted systematic literature review identify sixteen twenty-seven barriers. These were then evaluated through expert insights, synthesized using Nominal Group Technique (NGT), triangulated interviews local DTF managers. findings reveal that only two drivers, primarily regulatory compliance managerial support, fourteen are relevant context, underscoring challenges companies face adopting sustainable practices. paper contributes both theory practice by offering decision-making model guide managers policymakers fostering SOI within regional contexts, despite posed limited infrastructure complexities. highlights need enhanced policy public awareness, technological investment facilitate similar industrial sectors.

This article proposes to understand the concept of “innovation” as an eclectic whose different meaning vary according contextual and organizational factors. The definition is studied from websites 22 Canadian nanotechnological enterprises. adopted epistemological position qualitative interpretative, reasoning method inductive which allowed emergence new dimension innovation. In that way, results presented in this research contribute extension existing knowledge on strategy interpretative analysis reveals four meanings innovation: innovation market domination strategy, a creative process value commitment. Additionally, we suggest nanotechnology enterprises focus strategies based development nanomaterials more than finished products. Our discussion built around multidimensional nature challenges regarding transferability other sectors.
