Objective Childhood food allergy is increasing in western societies. Preventing and managing allergies therefore essential for both parents children. Given the limited previous research on parents’ experiences of prevention early childhood, this study aimed to develop a grounded theory understand interactions families whose children are at risk of, or have been diagnosed with, allergy. Design Using constructivist approach, we used initial, focused theoretical coding, as well constant comparative analysis memoing interpret our data. Setting Thematic interviews were conducted Germany between March September 2022. Participant We included 28 carers (25 mothers 3 fathers) aged 0–3 years with recruited participants using snowball sampling. Results developed that named ‘negotiating uncertainty childhood allergy’. This describes child central phenomena negotiation uncertainty. Negotiation transform perceived challenges into feelings competence relation (the of) Core themes ‘parental roles’, ‘healthcare’, ‘childcare’, ‘informal support’ ‘family routines’.
