For decades the United States has faced substance use epidemics that have devastating public health consequences, with most recent epidemic being opioid epidemic. There is an urgent need to locate effective interventions for parents involved with child protection services (CPS), Oranga Tamariki in Aotearoa New Zealand. This article describes a qualitative research study that sought understand: (1) the nature of service provision families; (2) workers' perceptions challenges and treatment components delivering intervention; (3) practices working Māori. Participants were staff members within NGOs, providing families ongoing involvement. Data comprised responses semi-structured interviews (n = 9), interpreted using thematic analysis. Findings highlighted all participants worked family homes deliver intervention, drew on Te Whare Tapa Whā. Challenges included maltreatment concerns participants' sense responsibility keeping children safe whilst being unable do so adequately their non-mandated roles. Perceived elements were: strong relationships, transparency, having courageous conversations when needed. For indigenous clients, self-determination effects colonisation prime importance.
