How has the global network of protected areas developed — and which decisions have guided this development? Answering these questions may give insight into what might be possible in next decade. In 2021, China will host Convention Biological Diversity's Conference, influence coming decade's agenda. We consider how expanded its last half-century. Did concerns about biodiversity protection drive those decisions, or were other factors responsible? Like countries, remote places with few people that are unusually cold dry both. Despite that, species small geographical ranges highest risk extinction better than expected. Importantly, while growth total area number slowed for decade, increases forested ecosystems they contain steadily increased. China's future reserve expansion must where to protect biodiversity, not just much protect.

Forest ecosystems are in serious trouble globally, largely due to the over-exploitation. To alleviate environmental problems caused by deforestation, China has undertaken a series of key forestry ecological development programs, including Natural Protection Program (NFPP), Conversion Cropland into Forests (CCFP), Desertification Combating around Beijing and Tianjing (DCBT), Key Shelterbelt Development Programs Three-North Region Middle Lower Reaches Yangtze River (KSDP) Nature Reserve Forestry Sector (WCNR). This article aims make documentation specific contents (duration, major aims, geographic coverage investment), impacts these programs from peer-reviewed literature, official reports journals. Environmental impact is measured with land area afforested (except WCNR) consequent changes ecosystem function. Overall, huge investment long-term efforts, have made tremendous progress increasing vegetative coverage, enhancing carbon sequestration, controlling soil erosion, conservation biodiversity, etc. For proper implementation remarkable achievement, more balanced approach flexible planning, suitable measures management should be adopted. Meanwhile, scientific communities need actively involved execution assessment programs. The DCBT, KSDP, WCNR deserve research concern.

The Ramsar Convention on Wetlands is an international framework through which countries identify and protect important wetlands. Yet wetlands are under substantial anthropogenic pressure worldwide, tracking ecological change relies multitemporal data sets. Here, we evaluated the spatial extent, temporal change, threat to at a national scale across China determine whether their management currently sustainable. We analyzed Landsat examine wetland dynamics threats 57 in between 1980 2018. Results reveal that sites play roles preventing loss compared dramatic decline of surrounding areas. However, there declines area 18 sites. Among those, six lost greater than 100 km 2 , primarily caused by agricultural activities. Consistent expansion land covers occurred within 43 (75%) sites, from cover were particularly notable eastern China. Aquaculture pond Spartina alterniflora invasion prominent coastal observations China’s regulations have higher levels protection other wetlands, can help track progress towards achieving United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). study findings suggest further timely actions required control degradation ecosystems.

China's coastal wetlands provide breeding, migration stopover, and wintering habitats for about 230 waterbird species, which is more than a quarter of all waterbirds in the world. Large-scale high intensity human activities have resulted serious loss degradation over past half century, causing population declines many waterbirds. Through literature review expert surveys, this article reviews conservation measures taken recent decades to conserve provides recommendations future action from three aspects: policy administration, habitat management, multiparty participation. Over decades, legislation, regulations plans at national level site-specific interventions been implemented, with notable improvement effectiveness making multi-stakeholder Accordingly, some threats mitigated key sites designated as strictly protected nature reserves. However, critical issues still remain, mostly related such wetland restoration, control invasive Spartina alterniflora, environmental pollution, artificial quality. We highlight that protecting natural tidal improving quality are waterbirds, especially those highly dependent on intertidal wetlands. In the last few years, natural protected areas have been facing great challenges and degradation around world. Among this, environmental sustainability has become a priority to create harmony between tourists nature. Tourists visiting are becoming progressively more concerned regarding environment. Moreover, United Nations (UN) “Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)” highlighted potential role of young contribute sustainable tourism. However, very studies focused on tourists’ environmentally behavior towards areas. To fill existing gap in literature, this study aims provide theoretical framework that includes awareness (ESA) measuring millennial (ESB). Thus, delivers an integrated approach based value-belief-norm (VBN) theory concept new ecological paradigm (NEP) A self-administered questionnaire survey was conducted from one located north Sichuan province China, 511 responses were obtained for statistical analysis. Results structural analysis showed unified model satisfactory level predictive power ESB, which superior theories concepts. The findings also revealed all proposed relationships variables significant identified positive influence generating ESB. This contributes tourism development conservation areas, with several practical implications local authorities terms participation.
