Wildlife trade represents a major threat to global biodiversity. Yet preventing species losses from unsustainable requires detailed knowledge of patterns and processes enable targeted interventions. Bangladesh possible lynchpin in for certain groups, yet its role has largely been overlooked until present. We document the twelve live felid based on interviews with actors involved this trade, published newspaper reports seizure incidents, CITES export import records specific shipments felids 2016 2021. Of 12 identified wild one was classed as Endangered by IUCN, four were Vulnerable, three Near Threatened. South Africa India, main source countries at 51% 27% items respectively, whilst India Myanmar dominated exports 20% 15% respectively. International nine land ports, airport, seaport. Our study also suggests that increased may be partially exotic pets. Abstract Illegal killing of protected nongame birds is pervasive and can be demographically relevant. In 2021 2022, we evaluated spatial temporal patterns in illegal along 69.7 km power lines the Morley Nelson Snake River Birds Prey National Conservation Area Idaho, USA, to provide insight into potential drivers behind activity key information manage this threat across American west. The shooting 8 species raptors corvids documented was clumped both temporally spatially, as opposed being randomly distributed year landscape. We found 72 illegally shot birds, most killed during spring months (March May), coincident with peak time periods legal recreational activity, places high levels shooting. also evidence targeted conservation area areas not associated Given numbers nesting pairs some local raptor species, likely relevant for but all populations. Likewise, prevalence west, inference draw broadly beyond our Idaho study area. work provides enable owners lines, law enforcement agencies, resource managers coordinate outreach, regulatory, action a that may have widespread impacts avian species.

Abstract Unsustainable wildlife trade is a major threat to many species, but quantifying remains challenging, as seizure data provides an incomplete understanding. For this reason, integrating multiple types of information, including interviews with actors involved in trade, crucial if we are understand the problem better. Hence, study, digitized Bangladesh Forest Department tiger records identify routes and interviewed 163 individuals trafficking tigers through Bangladesh's air, sea land ports, poachers, smugglers, traders. We identified six ports used import tigers, 14 for export three showing bi‐directional trade. Elite Bangladeshis were most important consumer group, sourced from populations NE India, Myanmar Sundarbans supply domestic demand. Tiger products exported countries, seven G20 nations, Bangladeshi expatriates group countries (United Kingdom, Germany Qatar). Rising economic development over last decade, combined deep‐rooted cultural ties consumption, has led rise Additionally, rapid growth international transport links increased smuggling connected local traders global markets, increasing complexity These findings suggest poised play pivotal role conservation next requiring strong national strategies reduce opportunities, disrupt networks weaken

Abstract Wildlife markets are hotspots for illegal wildlife trade, with traders operating as a result of weak monitoring and law enforcement. Knowledge species traded, sources, routes used transport is needed to identify trade intervene stem trade. We conducted surveys in 13 across Bangladesh every month during January-December 2019 assess the abundance diversity taxa traded factors driving this Passeriformes, Columbiformes, Psittaciformes, Artiodactyla, Carnivora Testudines were most orders. also centres high-value species, including tiger Panthera tigris , crocodile Crocodylus porosus tortoises. In hill peri-urban commonly sold originated from nearby forests, whereas urban included both native exotic sourced internationally. Market type, road links market, presence enforcement agencies, proximity port form sale (live animals or byproducts) all significantly influenced what being traded. Trade mammals, reptiles, threatened was less common proximal agencies. Markets close seaports airports more likely sell wildlife. Based on our results, we recommend set interventions help reduce market-based Bangladesh.
