Global warming is one of the primary drivers habitat loss and population decline in numerous species, including birds, amphibians marine life. Avian embryos exhibit ectothermic phenotypes during most their incubation period are also vulnerable to rising temperatures when parents cannot cool nests. This vulnerability stems from unique respiratory mechanisms, which utilize eggshell pores exchange gases. The number fixed at oviposition, may experience hypoxia later developmental stages, especially exposed elevated ambient/incubation temperatures. Our preliminary study on zebra finch ( Taeniopygia guttata castanotis ) embryos, where we covered 30% shell surface with beeswax incubated high (38.9°C) temperature, revealed that half individuals failed hatch had developed oedema hind neck region. shows such physical anomalies occur prior death. We found a higher head-to-body ratio, independent relative brain mass. Furthermore, formation was correlated darker-coloured hearts, suggesting reduced blood oxygenation these embryos. These results highlight physiological challenges face under suboptimal conditions. article part theme issue ‘The biology avian system’.

With limited resources and efforts, assessing species' vulnerabilities across various geographic regions before the conservation practice is essential for biodiversity in context of climate change. One pressing challenge has been establishing natural temperature-manipulated research systems latitudes. To address this challenge, an innovative infrastructure developed named semi-natural chambers latitudes (SCCAL), consisting at three latitudes, spanning 27° 3393 km from tropical to temperate regions. Each latitude features eight medium-sized patches temperature manipulation, organisms rearing, ecological experiments. Independent external water electricity supplies, SCCAL allows simulate thermal environments under different change scenarios with soil moisture. Ecological experiments Grass lizards successfully are conducted, demonstrating that effectively supports species responses determining, vulnerability assessing. The widespread adoption or development similar infrastructures encouraged, which can facilitate assessment latitudinal animal
