Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) is the most prevalent chronic worldwide and has become a major public health problem. MASLD frequently progresses to cirrhosis hepatocellular carcinoma, but recent studies also show frequent association with extrahepatic cancers. One of mechanisms involved in both locations insulin resistance hyperinsulinemia. The aim this narrative review was present main etiopathogenic cancer development patients MASLD.

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is an escalating global health concern with significant implications for cancers. A better understanding of the causal relationship between NAFLD and extrahepatic cancers might help in clinical management prevent its adverse outcomes. This study encompassed two complementary approaches. First, cross-sectional analysis was performed to examine association cancers, utilizing individual-level data from National Health Nutrition Examination Survey (2017-March 2020, 2021-2023 cycles). Logistic regression model utilized evaluate association. Subsequently, Mendelian randomization (MR) conducted explore Summary-level genetically predicted were derived large-scale genome-wide studies (GWAS), IEU Open GWAS project UK Biobank. The inverse variance weighting (IVW) method a random-effect as main analysis. total 10,010 participants included No observed after adjusting potential confounders, odd ratios (ORs) ranging 0.872 2.171. IVW MR showed genetic liability cALT imaging-and-biopsy confirmed not causally associated ORs 0.957 1.118 (all p > 0.050). Moreover, & bile duct cancer (OR = 1.001, 95% CI 1.000-1.001, 0.011; OR < 0.001), reinforcing well-documented link cancer. Our findings demonstrated that common Further research required validate these results mechanistic perspective.

Waist circumference (WC) and body mass index (BMI) are considered useful for the diagnosis of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD). This study aimed to investigate association between roundness (BRI) a shape (ABSI) with incident MASLD, in comparison WC BMI. Retrospective cohort data from Japanese health check-up program were analyzed. Logistic regression model was used evaluate associations anthropometric measure quartiles receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis performed measures stratified by sex. A total 10,561 males 7,187 females included, whom 3,182 914 developed MASLD. Multivariate revealed that higher WC, BMI, BRI associated MASLD both sexes, whereas ABSI significantly only females. Among males, area under ROC curve (AUC) BMI than BRI, ABSI. Conversely, among females, AUC ABSI, it comparable or BRI. The optimal cut-off values predicting 0.77 23.9 kg/m2 0.86 22.2 82.0 cm 76.3 respectively. We demonstrated strongest compared other measures, particularly while also showing strong Additionally, specific criteria Asians improve needed.

Abstract Background Most forms of obesity are associated with chronic diseases that remain a global public health challenge. Aims Despite significant advancements in understanding its pathophysiology, effective management is hindered by the persistence knowledge gaps epidemiology, phenotypic heterogeneity and policy implementation. Materials Methods This consensus statement European Society for Clinical Investigation identifies eight critical areas requiring urgent attention. Key include insufficient long‐term data on trends, inadequacy body mass index (BMI) as sole diagnostic measure, recognition diversity obesity‐related cardiometabolic risks. Moreover, socio‐economic drivers transition across phenotypes poorly understood. Results The syndemic nature obesity, exacerbated globalization environmental changes, necessitates holistic approach integrating frameworks community‐level interventions. advocates leveraging emerging technologies, such artificial intelligence, to refine predictive models address variability. It underscores importance collaborative efforts among scientists, policymakers, stakeholders create tailored interventions enduring policies. Discussion highlights need harmonizing anthropometric biochemical markers, fostering inclusive narratives combating stigma obesity. By addressing these gaps, this initiative aims advance research, improve prevention strategies optimize care delivery people living Conclusion effort marks decisive step towards mitigating epidemic profound impact systems. Ultimately, should be considered being largely consequence model not compatible optimal human health.
