In this paper, we examine how business cycles affect labor market outcomes in the United States. We conduct a detailed analysis of differentially across persons differing age, education, race, and gender, compare cyclical sensitivity during Great Recession to that early 1980s recession. present raw tabulations estimate state panel data model leverages variation U.S. states timing severity cycles. find impacts are not uniform demographic groups have been felt most strongly for men, black Hispanic workers, youth, low-education workers. These dramatic differences cyclicality remarkably stable three decades time throughout recessionary periods expansionary periods. For 2007 recession, these largely explained by exposure industry-occupation employment.

This report introduces the COVID-19 Family Environment Scale (CHES), which aims to measure impact of social distancing due on household conflict and cohesion. Existing measures do not capture experiences relevant pandemic, in families are largely confined their homes while sharing a life-threatening situation. Using best practice guidelines, we developed pool items revised them with review by panel experts, cognitive interviewing community respondents. We administered CHES online survey 3,965 adults. The consists 15 for each two subscales, (α = .847) cohesion .887). Exploratory factor analysis yielded factors, corresponding intended items, accounted 29% variance. Confirmatory partially supported 2-factor model (RMSEA .057; CFI .729, TLI .708, SRMR .098). also contains 25 optional describe respondent characteristics, household-level exposure. CHES, publicly available at https://elcentro.sonhs.miami.edu/research/measures-library/covid-19/index.html, provides tool measuring pandemic important determinants resilience face major stressful events. Further work is needed address structure establish validity CHES. We leverage spatial variation in the severity of Great Recession across United States to examine its impact on mortality and explore implications for welfare consequences recessions. We estimate that an increase unemployment rate magnitude reduces average, annual age-adjusted by 2.3 percent, with effects persisting at least 10 years.Mortality reductions appear causes death are concentrated half population a high school degree or less.We similar percentage all ages, declines elderly thus responsible about three-quarters total reduction.Recession-induced driven primarily external reduced aggregate economic activity mortality, recession-induced air pollution be quantitatively important mechanism.Incorporating our estimates pro-cyclical into standard macroeconomics framework substantially costs recessions, particularly people less education, older ages where they may even welfare-improving.

Despite the provision of financial support by Government in response to recent energy crisis, resilience households ensuing high prices remains be established. In this study we propose a new definition resilience, specifically 'energy price resilience', and put forward an empirical approach capture low (LENRES). We also assess its associated socio-economic demographic factors using representative UK panel. Using models that account for time-invariant unobserved heterogeneity, further explore association between LENRES rich set health, disability, wellbeing outcomes adults children through two fundamental routes: (1) thermal affordability channel (LEA); (2) solvency (LES). find employment status, housing tenure, inability save, prepayment methods, household composition are systematic correlates LENRES. Moreover, is with worse adults; these associations primarily driven LES component. On other hand, case children, at home only systematically life satisfaction, rather than general health. Our results suggest targeted interventions could generate wider societal benefits.

In response to the growing demand for healthier food, online fresh food platforms have emerged as a convenient solution, aiming meet this need. This study employs difference-in-differences design and an imputation method evaluate impact of on population health. These methodological approaches enable identification causal effects, offering insights into how these influence health outcomes across different demographic groups. Our findings reveal that availability options positively influences by increasing physical activity, such walking time, reducing BMI, hypertension, depression rates. Easier access fosters lifestyles, contributing both improved mental may offer policymakers, suggesting accessible healthy diet could contribute improving community

This study examines the link between health shocks and labor market outcomes in United Kingdom. For sample periods of up to 9 years, I use longitudinal data from British Household Panel Survey test how sudden affect a number outcomes, such as household income, employment status, hours worked. Additionally, potential mechanisms underlying declines outcomes. By estimating propensity score matching difference-in-differences models, shows that lead significant persistent reductions earnings. The effects are strongest for individuals experiencing severe shocks, males, with higher education those working managerial jobs. When examining channels, provide evidence increased care expenditures usage well reduced work productivity can explain observed on

A vast literature has examined the impact of family income on health and development outcomes children.Income may improve child through two mechanisms.First, if it improves a family's ability to purchase direct inputs into education production such as reading material, educational equipment, care.Second, by reducing stress conflict, additional helps foster an environment more conducive healthy development, regardless nature specific expenditures. In this paper, we exploit changes in refundable tax benefit Canada study these questions.Importantly, our approach allows us make stronger causal inferences than been possible existing studies.Using variation benefits across province, time, type, expenditure patterns families receiving benefits. Our findings suggest that both mechanisms: some is spent inputs, while everyday items likely general conditions children face.Additionally, reduce spending risky behavior items.Spending responses generosity appear vary income.
