Understanding
the
emotional
impact
of
climate
change
(CC),
its
education
and
communication
processes
on
young
people
is
essential
to
identify
what
motivates
their
engagement
in
action.
We
have
analysed
experiences
secondary
school
students

Spain
(N

1,050)

for
exploring
CC,

CC

ABSTRACT
Research
on
young
people's
perspectives
COVID‐19
remains
limited.
This
qualitative
serial
picture
analysis
of
Swedish
children's
drawings,
predominately
from
spring
2020
(
N
=
169),
aimed
to
explore
their
views
and
meaning‐making
processes.
The
focus
was
the
interconnections
two
global
crises
in
drawings–pandemic
environmental
crisis–revealing
several
links,
such
as
negative
emotions
dystopian
expectations,

Purpose
This
study
aims
to
comparatively
analyse
the
intensity
of
eco-anxiety
among
Brazilian
and
Portuguese
university
students,
elucidating
their
perceptions,
emotions
primary
coping
strategies
used.
Design/methodology/approach
A
qualitative
approach
was
used,
based
on
semi-structured
interviews
with
19
students.

analysis

Bardin’s
(1977)
content
framework,
Hogg
Eco-Anxiety
Scale
(Hogg

al.

2021).
Findings
Despite
cultural
differences,
participants
exhibit
similar
levels
emotional
distress
in
response
climate
crisis,
manifesting
feelings
concern,
frustration,
helplessness,
fear
anguish.
These
emotions,
turn,
have
tangible
impacts
students’
daily
lives,
affecting
sleep,
concentration,
interpersonal
relationships
overall
mental
health.

Conversely,
students
emphasise
need
for
concrete
actions
at
both
collective
