This study aimed to investigate the effects of acoustically screened Five-Element Music combined with traditional Chinese mind–body exercises (Taijiquan and Baduanjin) on emotion regulation, working memory, functional brain connectivity in older adults. A randomized repeated-measures design was employed, recruiting 42 healthy adults aged 60–70 years. Participants were assigned five groups: alone (FE), Taijiquan (TJ), Baduanjin (BDJ), (FE+TJ), (FE+BDJ). Emotion assessed using an regulation choice task, N-back near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS), respectively. selected computational acoustic methods identify music therapeutic effects. Significant differences observed acceptance rate for high-intensity unpleasant pictures across different conditions (p = 0.001). Compared baseline, significantly higher FE FE+TJ 0.027, p 0.021). Moreover, condition than 0.007). found average accuracy 2-back task 0.001), showing baseline 0.005). The reaction time also differed demonstrating a lower compared FE+BDJ 0.003, (FC) between conditions. Specifically, FC CH45 CH9 CH29 CH6 other < 0.02). combination improved prefrontal–parietal These findings underscore synergistic benefits integrating auditory stimulation exercise, offering promising intervention cognitive emotional health aging populations. Future research should long-term broader applications.
