Microplastics (MPs) are recognized as emerging soil contaminants. However, the potential risks of MPs to agroecosystems have not been fully revealed, especially compound toxic effects with co-existing organic or inorganic pollutants (OPs/IPs) in agricultural fields. In this study, we quantified contributions different agronomic practices sources and highlighted important influences long-term tillage fertilization on migration aging addition, antagonistic synergistic interactions between OPs/IPs were explored. We emphasized that degree adsorption particles is a key determinant co-toxicity those contaminants soil. Finally, several directions for future research proposed, these knowledge gaps provide an basis understanding contamination process soils.

Abstract The aim of the 1st European Healthy Soils Conference in September 2023 Muttenz, Switzerland, was to bring together professionals working on soil health from academia, private sector, policymakers and students. Within conference, a workshop ‘From Practical Issues Indicators’ held. In addition flash presentations subsequent discussion rounds, opinions participants definition major threats were also collected. A majority favour statement: ‘Healthy soils are good chemical, biological physical condition so that they can provide ecosystem services vital humans environment’. Of 10 put forward for discussion, voted four most important at level, those being erosion, loss organic carbon, biodiversity compaction . need long‐term observation plots different agro‐ecosystems Europe emphasised contributions discussion. Furthermore, methodological developments standardisations simple direct enough be accepted applied practical level by farmers advisors called for.
