Mitochondria are eukaryotic cellular organelles that function in energy metabolism, ROS production, and programmed cell death. Cutaneous epithelial hair follicle dermal papilla cells energy-rich thereby may be affected by mitochondrial dysfunction DNA mutation accumulation. In this review, we aimed to summarize the medical literature assessing dermatologic conditions outcomes associated with dysfunction. A search of PubMed Embase was performed subsequent handsearching retrieve additional relevant articles. Mitochondrial (mtDNA) deletions, accumulation, damage phenotypic signs cutaneous aging, loss, impaired wound healing. addition, several aberrant activity, such as systemic lupus erythematosus, psoriasis, vitiligo, atopic dermatitis. Mouse model studies have better established causality between outcomes, some depicting reversibility upon restoration function. mediates a variety conditions, components promising target for therapeutic strategies.

Aging of human skin is a complex process leading to decline in homeostasis and regenerative potential this tissue. Mitochondria are important cell organelles that have crucial role several cellular mechanisms such as energy production free radical maintenance. However, mitochondrial metabolism well processes dynamics, biogenesis, degradation varies considerably among the different types cells populate skin. Disturbed function known promote aging inflammation skin, impairment physiological onset pathologies. In review, we discuss essential mitochondria how morphology, physiology, each these compartments contributes aging.

Background: Lichen planus (LP) is a chronic inflammatory skin disease of unelucidated etiology. LP immunopathogenesis mainly governed by cytotoxic T lymphocytes that mediate an immune response in basal keratinocytes, which may transform into reservoir antigens able to initiate autoimmune reaction. However, other pathogenic pathways complement these mechanisms. Recent studies highlight the involvement nitrosative stress pathogenesis diseases. Current data on its role are scarce. Methods: In this article, we investigated 40 cutaneous (CLP) patients compared healthy subjects using serum markers including markers—direct nitrite, total nitrate and symmetric dimethylarginine (SDMA), antioxidant status (TAS), hsCRP, marker inflammation, analyzed relationship between stress, defense, inflammation offer new insights NO pathway pathogenesis. Results: We identified significantly higher levels direct nitrate, SDMA lower TAS CLP versus controls. There were significant negative correlations significantl positive hsCRP with CLP. Conclusion: Our results indicate increased level correlates pro-inflammatory altered defense.
