Greek waters are the recipient of several alien species, mainly through natural dispersal following invasion and establishment non-indigenous species (NIS) in neighboring areas, making their monitoring mitigating effects paramount importance. The European Union legislation framework toward invasions considers risk assessments as top spear for a first assessment NIS potential to become invasive or not. Abstract Devil firefish ( Pterois miles ), a member of Scorpaenidae family, is one the most successful marine non-native species, dominating around world, that was rapidly spread into Mediterranean Sea, through Suez Canal, originating from Indian Ocean. Even though lionfishes (Scorpaenidae) are identified among prosperous invaders, within this taxonomic group, genomic resources scant, while reference genome assemblies totally absent. Here, we built and analyzed first assembly P. explored its evolutionary background. The resulting consisted 660 contigs scaffolds (N50 = 14,5 Mb) with total size about 902 Mb, delivering 98% BUSCO completeness. We described large amount transposable elements present in based on data constructed teleost phylogeny which includes genus . high-quality contiguity de novo herein provides valuable resource for future studies species’ biology ecology, lionfish phylogeny, influence evolution vertebrate genomes fish toxins evolution.
