Mental disorders are pervasive among global students enrolled in postsecondary education institutions, and the mental health conditions of international (ISs) seizing additional attention from professionals due to their unique challenges. This review aims address three categories psychosocial factors that particularly affecting ISs’ conditions, including 1) acculturative stress, 2) explicit implicit discrimination 3) interpersonal relationships/intercultural social efficacy. High mindfulness level, low perceived cultural distancing, high host language proficiency, sufficient psychoeducation educators ISs protective acculturation-related distress. Low loneliness, anxiety mediate relationship between discrimination. Possessing, maintaining, enhancing existing healthy relationships connectedness culture provides with support overcome psychological Correspondingly, article discussed interventions have shown effectiveness potential practical application value both personal institutional perspectives. In sum, as noteworthy academic competency ISs, it requires more investigations into intervening process targeting stressors.

Abstract Political, social, environmental, and health challenges have questioned the relevance sustainability of international student mobility (ISM). Strong critiques towards ISM stem from current global but are also rightfully prevalent among scholars internationalization. In response to sustained critique ISM, this article makes case that—despite its limitations—ISM can contribute important public good outcomes serve broader institutional higher education sector aims. Public is operationalized as referring markers democratization —trust in others political participation—and human development —self-reported competency levels happiness. Data eight European countries collected through Eurograduate 2018 pilot survey used test association between study abroad markers. By doing so, paper aims understand if help address some faced at national, regional, levels. This article explores international students’ experiences in their graduate STEM programs at predominantly white US institutions through in-depth qualitative interviews and thematic analysis. International students reported encountering social cultural barriers with American peers sometimes even other students. These include language, popular cultural, norms. Some students, who were less culturally represented cohorts, felt isolated but later found people outside of departments, often from same background. The our participants varied by the representation culture where countries experienced more isolation. Connections to current acculturation theory will be discussed, as well further implications possible solutions for increasing intercultural exchanges.
