Mitigating

biodiversity

ABSTRACT
Despite
the
critical
conservation
status
of
endemic
gudgeon
Gobio
insuyanus
,
its
feeding
ecology
remained
unstudied.
This
research
addresses
this
gap
by
investigating
diet
G.
in
Insuyu
spring–stream
system
Central
Anatolia
(Turkey)
analyzing
spatial,
temporal,
and
intraspecific
variations.
We
compared
two
distinct
habitats:
a
stable
spring
continuum,
fluctuating
stream.
Results
indicate
that
is
an
omnivore,
consuming
primarily
detritus,
Gammarids,
Diptera
larvae.
Feeding
intensity
was
higher
habitat,
particularly
summer,
possibly
related
to
temperature
lower
turbidity.
Dietary
diversity
stream,
potentially
reflecting
greater
habitat
complexity,
but
decreased
both
habitats
autumn,
suggesting
seasonal
decline
prey
availability.
A
significant
ontogenetic
shift
observed;
mature
individuals
exhibited
narrower
niche
preferred
larger
prey,
probably
due
increased
gape
size,
improved
foraging
ability,
energy
requirements.
No
dietary
differences
were
found
between
sexes.
The
results
have
implications,
emphasizing
need
maintain
integrity
habitats.
