This study explores university students’ attitudes toward generative AI technology and tools in two European countries. The widespread use and adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications among university students has drastically transformed the educational landscape. Recognizing importance this transformation, study aims to investigate factors affecting AI Pakistani research scholars. This used an extended version unified theory acceptance technology model innovative resistance theory. data were collected from 235 scholars through a questionnaire. Descriptive statistics multiple linear regression test analyze data. found that various for purposes such as ChatGPT, Grammarly, ChatPDF, SciSpace. personal innovativeness, performance expectancy, social influence, trust significantly influence scholars’ behavioral intention applications. In contrast, impact effort facilitating conditions, innovation on students’ tools was statistically insignificant. findings offer actionable insights educators, policymakers, developers aiming enhance in higher education.

The rapid development of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) technology has triggered extensive discussions about its potential applications in sustainable higher education. Based on the acceptance model (TAM) and task–technology fit (TTF) theory, this research aimed to investigate current situations challenges Chinese university students using GenAI four typical task scenarios. This was performed a cross-sectional design. data were collected via questionnaire, with 486 undergraduates from participating. analysis methods include descriptive statistics, inferential content analysis. results show that more than 70% actively use GenAI, but nearly half them are not very proficient use. Doubao ERNIE Bot tools they prefer most. primary functions text production information retrieval. They mainly learn relevant knowledge skills through self-media knowledge-sharing platforms. Among scenarios, is widely used course learning activities, while application daily life job search relatively limited. demographic variables shows grade major have significant impact students’ GenAI. In addition, suggest universities should offer courses or lectures provide comprehensive technical support improve popularity operability study provides suggestions for universities, education administration departments, departments services. Abstract The transformative potential of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) in language education highlights the importance AI literacy among teachers to ensure its ethical and effective integration into teaching practices. Although studies have examined application education, there is a lack comprehensive reviews focusing on interaction between ChatGPT, GenAI tool, particularly fostering human–AI collaboration within educational contexts. This study investigates the perceptions of English pre-service teachers (PSTs) in China regarding integrating generative AI, specifically ChatGPT, into language teaching. Utilizing a quantitative approach with sample 134 PSTs, research explores their familiarity AI technologies, its perceived impact on acquisition, and acceptance as pedagogical tool.
