This qualitative study investigates how Chinese international students adopt marginalization as a coping strategy during the acculturation process, drawing on Self-Determination Theory to examine underlying psychological needs for autonomy, competence, and relatedness. Semi-structured interviews were conducted via social media voice chat with 12 students, enabling an in-depth exploration of their experiences formation distinct identity clusters within online communities. Analysis revealed three clusters: Gamers, who engage in gaming regain competence validation; Bachelors, experience romantic rejection, low self-esteem, withdrawal, often substituting intimacy pornography; Dissidents, "double dissident" political marked by severe depression, alienation, suicidal ideations due censorship fear repercussions. The findings underscore urgent need culturally sensitive mental health support development inclusive platforms that empower marginalized immigrant populations, highlighting complex interplay between mechanisms digital age.
