Online labour platforms (OLPs) are profit-oriented companies utilising technology to connect independent contractor workers with short-term service needs, offering a digital marketplace for posting tasks, receiving bids, and finalising agreements across various domains such as writing, design, programming, marketing. This paper presents bibliometric analysis of the concurrent body knowledge on OLPs, explaining how specificities this emerging form researched from academic standpoints. The study is based dataset 358 papers OLPs published 2013 August 2023. main finding that scholarly interest in steadily growing observed period. Previous studies show that gig economy‐based work opens up new ways in which inequalities are (re)produced. In this context, it is particularly important to look at female cleaners private households, where gender intersect with other axes of disadvantage such as class, migratory experience, or ascribed ethnicity. Purpose Previous research has established the critical role of work passion and identified various strategies for fostering employee within traditional organizational contexts. However, with rise gig economy, an important question remains: How can digital platforms effectively foster workers’ enhance their subsequent work? By integrating dualistic model passion, this study aims to examine perceived algorithmic control as a salient antecedent among workers. Design/methodology/approach A time-lagged field was conducted 324 drivers in China. Findings Perceived had double-edged sword effect on engagement: it enhanced engagement through harmonious but undermined obsessive passion. Furthermore, perceptions transparency mitigate negative indirect effects Originality/value This proposed tested mediating mechanisms moderating variables by which influences workers, contributing new insights into understanding how technology shapes states.

Adversaries or Cross-Organization Co-workers? Exploring the Relationship between Gig Workers and Conventional Employees DOI

This article explores how gig workers interact with more conventional employees. Drawing on original qualitative and quantitative data from Instacart shoppers grocery store staff, this shows Instacart’s algorithmic management system pushes to mistreat in-store staff. Yet for who frequently the author finds they develop cooperative, cross-organization co-worker relationships. These relationships grant access resources typically reserved allowing them navigate constraints that places them. Findings show platform companies’ use of tools can spill over negatively affect working conditions workers; but also, improve their own by building peers.

Purpose Drawing on psychological contract (PC) theory and platform labor research, the purpose of our study was to explore gig workers’ reactions perceived PC violation. What Do Platform Workers Think?: Analysis of Truck Drivers’ Perspectives on Digital Platforms Using GPT-4 DOI Open Access

This study examines platform workers’ experiences and perspectives about digital platforms in the Chinese freight transportation industry based on a large dataset of self-employed truck drivers’ online discussions. Utilizing state-of-the-art language model (LLM), GPT-4 by OpenAI, this article creates novel topic generation framework, Sequential Abstraction, to analyze topics concern among drivers. Additionally, employs perform sentiment analysis classification tasks, which achieve accuracy rates 78.13% 79.17%, respectively, with manually labeled results as benchmarks. The research highlight significant economic insecurities drivers face when finding gigs platforms. contributes existing work literature examining real-time, spontaneous voices surrounding advocates for further uncovering potential LLMs facilitating descriptive explanatory social science research.
