ABSTRACT Introduction Bipolar disorder, socioeconomic deprivation, and social isolation are major risk factors for suicide. The interpersonal theory of suicide (IPTS) posits perceived burdensomeness thwarted belongingness as proximal causes suicidal thoughts behaviors, while the determinants health (SDOH) framework highlights distal factors. Studies suicidality in bipolar disorder have used IPTS SDOH framework, but few integrated them to explore connections between Methods This study examined mediators relationship cumulative risk. Participants were 171 outpatients a United States (U.S.) clinic (mean age = 39.0, 69.6% female, 73.7% Black/African American). Results Cumulative risk, burdensomeness, positively associated with Perceived mediated did not. Conclusion Findings broadly suggest can be fruitfully guide research prevent pathway from via warrants further attention, particularly individuals diagnosed disorder. Implications future studies IPTS, SDOH, discussed.

ABSTRACT Background Emerging research suggests neighborhood disadvantage is associated with disordered eating (DE; e.g., binge eating, body dissatisfaction) beginning in middle childhood, effects that increment those of proximal (e.g., family income). Understanding factors contribute to early risk for youth living disadvantaged neighborhoods critical because childhood DE predisposes more severe disorders adolescence/adulthood. However, the specific “active ingredients” through which impact remain unknown. We examined community violence exposure and limited resources green spaces, recreational facilities) as two notable neighborhood‐level stressors could associations between distal DE. Method Participants included girls boys oversampled from MSU Twin Registry ( N = 2060; M age 8.02; 48.7% female). Analyses used structural equation modeling examine whether neighbor informant reports were after accounting characteristics income, racial identity). Results Community was significantly b 0.20, 95% CI [0.14, 0.27]), but not 0.04, [−0.13, 0.22]). Associations consistent across multiple potential moderators, including age, sex, identity, mass index. Conclusions a significant stressor may help explain youth. Additional needed understand underlying cognitive, affective, biological mechanisms increase under‐resourced contexts.

This study examined racial disparities in health among women, particular, the relationship between social status and both development of psychosocial resources good health. These relationships were investigated using a sample 869 women from 2007 wave U.S. Panel Study Income Dynamics, Child Development Supplement. While Black developed intrapersonal rewards self-efficacy self-esteem through socioeconomic status, they did not experience same degree benefits with these advantages as White women. Models relating self-rated chronic conditions suggested that, instead, highly educated at persistent disadvantage relative to Whites, even levels resources. That being said, higher self-efficacy, particularly, self-esteem, more likely than lower report better Thus, may improve within disadvantaged group while still bringing them up level experienced by their advantaged counterparts. Overall, findings demonstrated that research should treat homogenous group, assuming mechanisms affecting operate for regardless race.
