Multiple studies have examined associations between sleep and cognition in older adults, but a majority of these depend on self-reports utilize cognitive tests that assess overall function. The current meta-analysis involved 72 independent sought to quantify objectively measured parameters performance healthy adults. Both macrostructure (e.g., duration, continuity, stages) microstructure slow wave activity spindle activity) were evaluated. For macrostructure, lower restlessness at night was associated with better memory (r = 0.43, p 0.02), while onset latency executive functioning 0.28, 0.03). Greater relative amount N2 REM sleep, not N3, positively correlated performance. association adults marginally significant. This relationship moderated by age (z 0.07, < 0.01), education 0.26, 0.03), percentage female participants 0.01, 0.01). emphasizes the importance considering objective measures understand These results also form base from which researchers using wearable technology measuring behavior through computerized testing tools can evaluate their findings.

The association between sleep problems and quality of life has been well documented the COVID-19 pandemic seemingly had an impact on both health-related (HRQoL). However, recent evidence about this relationship among university students is limited. aims study are to investigate prevalence poor insomnia explore associations these outcomes, perceived stress, HRQoL Italian students. An anonymous questionnaire comprising Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, Insomnia Severity Short Form-12 health survey, Perceived Stress Scale was administered a convenience sample 1279 (1119 females 160 males, mean age: 23.4 ± 2.5 years) attending one largest universities. A total 65% participants showed quality, whereas 55% reported symptoms. Students reporting obtained higher stress scores lower physical mental scores. Controlling for variables hierarchical regression analyses that components added significant contribution prediction (ΔR2 = 0.1) 0.02) HRQoL. As whole, findings confirm relevance students' well-being might inform development promotion interventions population.
