Background: The brain and the intestinal microbiota are highly interconnected especially vulnerable to disruptions in early life. Emerging evidence indicates that psychosocial adversity detrimentally impacts microbiota, affecting both physical mental health. This study aims investigate gut microbiome young children immediate aftermath of maltreatment exposure. Methods: Maltreatment exposure was assessed 88 (ages 3–7) using Maternal Interview for Classification [MICM]. Children were allocated three groups according number experienced categories: no maltreatment, low high exposures. Stool samples collected analyzed by 16S rRNA sequencing. Results: subjected exhibited lower alpha diversity comparison those with (Simpson Index, Tukey post hoc, p = 0.059 0.007, respectively). No significant distinctions beta identified. High associated enrichment several genera from class Clostridia (Clostridium, Intestinibacter, Howardella Butyrivibrio) depletion genus Phocaeicola (class Bacteriodia). Conclusions: Severe is alterations children. Longitudinal trajectories composition context may reveal important insights related psychiatric somatic health outcomes.

Childhood maltreatment profoundly alters trajectories of brain development, promoting markedly increased long-term health risks and impaired intellectual development. However, the immediate impact on development in children extent to which altered global volume contributes with experience is currently unknown. We here utilized MRI data obtained from within 6 months after exposure assess association severity changes. further assessed between tested for mediating effect this association. used structural (3T) a sample 49 aged 3–5 years exposure, i.e. emotional physical abuse and/or neglect months, characterize intracranial tissue-specific volumes. Maltreatment was coded using Maternal Interview Classification Maltreatment. IQ at study entry one year Snijders Oomen Nonverbal Test. Higher significantly correlated smaller (r = -.393, p .008), mainly driven by lower total turn primarily due gray matter -.454, .002). Furthermore, associated -.548, < .001) predicted later -.493, .004.). The observed associations were independent potential confounding variables, including height, socioeconomic status, age sex. provide evidence that greater early childhood related size very young significant consequences ability, likely setting path far-reaching disadvantages. Insights into molecular neural processes underlie structure function are urgently needed derive mechanism-driven targets intervention.

Abstract The present study illustrates the utility of latent class analysis, a person‐centered data analytic approach, as an innovative method for identifying naturally occurring patterns polygenic risk, specifically within dopaminergic system. Moreover, this tests whether classes variation moderate effect child maltreatment exposure on internalizing symptoms among African ancestry youth. youth were selected because color are overrepresented in welfare system and individuals significantly underrepresented genomics research. Results identified three gene variation. Class 1 was marked predominately by homozygous minor alleles, 2 characterized major heterozygous presentations, 3 alleles DAT‐1 single‐nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) combination other SNPs. indicated that greater number subtypes experienced associated with higher only children pattern. This distinctly more or allelic presentations along all significant environment interaction replicated independent replication sample. Together, findings suggest pattern specific vulnerable to developing following exposure, relative their peers dopamine‐related patterns.
