Abstract The ability to monitor performance during a goal‐directed behavior differs among children and adults in ways that can be measured with several tasks techniques. As well, recent work has shown individual differences error monitoring moderate temperamental risk for anxiety this moderation changes age. We investigated age neural responses linked using multimodal approach. approach combined functional MRI source localization of event‐related potentials (ERPs) 12‐year‐old, 15‐year‐old, adult participants. Neural generators two components related monitoring, the N2 ERN, lay within specific areas fMRI clusters. Whereas correlates component appeared similar across groups, age‐related manifested location ERN component. dorsal anterior cingulate cortex (dACC) was predominant 12‐year‐old group; area posteriorly 15‐year‐old groups. A fMRI‐based ROI analysis confirmed pattern activity. These results suggest underlying mechanisms are developmental monitoring.

Abstract Recent theories suggest that for youth highly sensitive to incentives, perceiving more social threat may contribute anxiety (SA) symptoms. In 129 girls (ages 11–13) oversampled shy/fearful temperament, we thus examined how interactions between neural responses reward (vs. neutral) cues (measured during anticipation of peer feedback) and perceived in daily using ecological momentary assessment) predict SA symptoms two years later. No significant emerged when function was modeled as a latent factor. Secondary analyses showed higher associated with severe later only basolateral amygdala (BLA) activation at baseline. Interaction effects were specific BLA (not threat) cues, though main effect on emerged. Unexpectedly, also predicted generalized depression later, suggesting possible transdiagnostic risk pathways. Perceiving high be particularly detrimental potentially due mediating learning processes, this remains tested.

Abstract The temperamental trait behavioral inhibition (BI) is related to the development and maintenance of anxiety, particularly much so social anxiety disorder. We investigated if BI disorder predicted cognitive therapy (CBT) outcomes for youth anxiety. Youth ( N = 179; M age 11.6 years) were assessed 4 years following a randomized controlled CBT effectiveness trial. was measured by parent-reported Behavioral Inhibition Questionnaire at baseline. diagnostic recovery, youth- symptoms, clinical severity post-treatment, 1-year, 4-year follow-up. Pediatric anxiety disorders are common and have severe long-term consequences. Early-life fearful temperament is a predictor of later anxiety, but not all children with highly will eventually develop an disorder. Therefore, it important to identify factors that moderate the temperament-anxiety association. The goal this study replicate association in large cohort study, explore sex as moderator association, investigate four distinct peer interaction variables moderators 2730 (51.0% girls) parent-reported at 6 months symptoms 13 years were included from prospective (Generation R Study). Fearful was also observed subset (n = 643, 49.3% these children. Peer interactions measured different ways: mother-reported victimization (at age 7), self-reported friendship quality 9), feelings facial expressions during social exclusion lab-based task 9). Children higher parent-reported, observed, showed more adolescents, β 0.07, p < 0.001. This moderated by sex, -0.07, stronger adolescents who reported negative after exclusion, 0.05, 0.04. Victimization, quality, sad related increased did We associated community sample sex. Additionally, we Potentially, might benefit learning how cope exclusion. Future studies needed confirm our findings could focus on potential role coping rejection interventions.

Abstract Children with elevated behavioural inhibition (BI) show context‐inappropriate fear and dysregulated RSA across stressor tasks. However, few studies have examined dynamic within tasks relations to parent child anxiety. Using piecewise growth modelling multimethod baseline data from an intervention study of 151 3.5–5‐year‐old children their parents, we between social anxiety (SA), interaction in predicting children's (e.g. learning about unfamiliar peers, Trier Social Stress). Behavioral inhibition during early childhood is one of the strongest risk factors for development later anxiety disorders. Recently developed in-person interventions that target both young children who are highly inhibited and their parents (e.g., Turtle Program), have decreased children's increased social participation in peer group. However, researchers yet to examine effects intervention mode delivery. In present study, we compared pre-to post-intervention changes child parenting functioning families participating Program, delivered online with those made allocated a waiting-list condition; session attendance, homework completion satisfaction outcomes involved online; explored predictive role depending on delivery (in-person vs. online).
