Despite the higher prevalence of childhood traumatic experiences and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in autistic adults, research on trauma-related psychopathology traits young people is lacking. This study examined if high predispose individuals to experiences, development PTSD general psychopathology, greater functional impairment by age 18, both population a subsample trauma-exposed people. Data were utilised from Environmental Risk (E-Risk) Longitudinal Twin Study, nationally representative cohort 2,232 same-sex twins born 1994-1995 across England Wales. Participants subset children whose parents completed Childhood Autism Spectrum Test (CAST), during assessments at ages 8, 9 and/or 12 years (N = 1,504). We tested associations between age-18 reports lifetime trauma exposure, diagnosis, ('p-factor') NEET status ('not employment, education or training'). Analyses conducted controlling for sex, family socioeconomic (SES), intelligence quotient (IQ) accounting clustering. Higher significantly associated with exposure (Odd Ratio [OR] 1.26, 95% Confidence Intervals [CI] 1.03; 1.54), diagnosis (OR 1.91, CI 1.29; 2.82), (beta 3.22, 1.84; 4.60) 1.48, 1.05; 2.09) 18. Only robust adjustment potential confounders. Among children, also 1.75, 1.15; 2.68) 3.36, 0.68; 6.04) but only association held when adjusted Our findings suggest need develop targeted evidence-based treatments meet needs traits. However, whether our extend diagnosed requires further investigation.

Research indicates that prospective and retrospective measures of maltreatment often identify different groups individuals, yet the reasons for these discrepancies remain understudied.

Abstract Reduced hippocampal volumes are a feature of many mental disorders. Childhood maltreatment is known risk factor for the development psychopathology and has consistently been linked to volume reductions in adults, but not children adolescents. We propose that maltreatment‐related difficulties coping with developmental tasks adolescence young adulthood might underlie delayed emergence maltreated individuals. In study 196 healthy adults (mean age [years]: 24.0 ± 3.2, 50% female, 20.6% living partner (missings: n = 2)), we investigated interaction between childhood (Childhood Trauma Screener) breakup steady romantic relationship (List Threatening Experiences Questionnaire) on magnetic resonance imaging grey matter volumes. The experience moderated association bilateral volumes, revealing more negative associations participants at least one compared those no (right hippocampus: β − 0.05 0.02, p 0.031, (FDR) 0.031; left −0.06 0.005, 0.009). Moreover, our findings provide some evidence related smaller only who suffered from −0.23 0.10, 0.018, 0.018; −0.24 0.016, 0.018;). Our highlights adult social bonds early adversity vulnerability psychopathology.

Childhood victimization is a key risk factor for poor mental and physical health. In order to prevent childhood victimization, it important better understand its underlying etiological factors. not randomly distributed in the population but occurs more often context of certain characteristics child, family, broader environment. These may be both genetically environmentally influenced, making informative designs valuable disentangle Here we performed meta-analyses genetic environmental influences on based twin studies. We also tested whether vary depending features experiences including reporter experiences, type age at exposure. Following PRISMA guidelines, search relevant literature was conducted using MEDLINE, APA PsycInfo, Embase databases until September 2023. A meta-analysis 21 studies with 62,794 participants showed that accounted 40% variance shared 20%, non-shared 40%. addition, found varied victimization. The quantitative summary provided by this study advances our understanding mechanisms points prevention targets health effects.
