ABSTRACT Variation in species composition along an environmental gradient (β‐diversity) can inform our understanding of biodiversity patterns and composition. Beta diversity be partitioned into contributions to beta (SCBD) local (LCBD). While SCBD describes the variations among samples, LCBD measures uniqueness a biological community within larger ecosystem. Recently developed metrics enabled estimation contribution total individual sites Utilising these metrics, one‐time survey 275 sampling points four sub‐basins Upper Paraná River Hydrographic Basin (low‐flow streams, < 5 m 3 /s) was conducted assess fish Our results show that limnological influences at different scales contribute higher LCBD. However, land use richness were not directly linked this outcome, suggesting with fewer contributed diversity. It concluded is more influenced by characteristics position longitudinal than based on (SCBD). Moreover, high values even found portions lower richness. This means small streams upper are unique comprised varied habitats increasing As such, they should seen as target development policies designed conserve their pristine condition.

The Napo Moist Forest Ecoregion contains an extensive network of healthy, free-flowing rivers, creating a dynamic mosaic seasonal and permanent flooding areas that fluctuate with the hydrological season are primary importance for sustaining fish diversity. However, ongoing global environmental changes, including deforestation, dam construction climate anomalies, disrupt flood pulse threaten connectivity between floodplain main river channels. This study informs freshwater conservation by identifying critical maintaining habitat lateral in this biodiversity hotspot through high-resolution mapping seasonally flooded habitats from 2018 to 2021. We developed predictive models identify surface water dynamics using deep learning model trained on Sentinel-1 images pseudo ground truth data sets. also assessed rivers' floodplains throughout seasons years. Our achieved high accuracy (mean pixel = 97%) predicted 4,801 km2 consistently present years four seasons. Notably, all watersheds exhibited significant year-to-year variation, particularly habitats. On average, covered 943 km2. Caquetá, Bajo Marañón, Napo, Pastaza collectively accounted nearly 60% area's across findings highlight role as connectors influencing overall patch dynamics, area fluctuations, tributaries. found major annual fluctuations (km²) area. reduction mean size during low cycle reduced number patches. It increased distance patches, reducing landscape connectivity. Despite specific patches maintained consistent conditions, holding crucial significance connectivity, emphasizing their aquatic diverse cycles regions.

Lempuk fish is a native Indonesian that endemic in the Ranu Grati tectonic lake, Pasuruan Regency, East Java. This research aims to provide information efforts domesticate lempuk fish, especially on reproductive aspects related microscopic characteristics of gonads and type (Gobiopterus sp). uses primary sexual method with gonadal histology. The variables observed included male female sex ratio, histological structure gonads, fish. All data was analyzed descriptively, qualitatively quantitatively by comparing literature. samples taken this were 39 Fish then preserved 10% formalin. number for analysis 20 individuals, while morphometric meristic there 8 individuals. results show morphologically has transparent body shape central line black or brown pigment total length around 2-3 cm. have reproduction develops asynchronously (asynchronous) because development oocytes ovaries shows variety developmental stages, namely initial growth stage (nuclear perinuclear chromatin), cortical alveolar, vitellogenesis, mature stage. ratio predominantly 0.64: 0.36. differences reflect different functions, where play role egg cell production, testes are responsible sperm formation. An imbalance indicates importance carrying out domestication steps order prevent extinction continuous population decline.

Up-to-date and globally available information about the conservation status of biodiversity is paramount importance, given accelerating global loss. Governments rely on this for policies sustainable use biodiversity. Ecuador, a neotropical hotspot, harbors significant number endemic plant, animal, fungal species several these groups have been evaluated in Ecuadorian non-IUCN Red Lists.
