Families have historically been and remain the most significant units of human existence (Montefiore, 2022). The recognition families' paradoxical position is as old beginning family science. Although families are relational systems potentially providing great joy, support, security, also where pain, loss, trauma can originate from (Lebow, 2023; Walsh, 2021). Family science has reflected this paradox. Historically, following an Hegelian dialectic thesis, antithesis, synthesis, started by examining deficits identifying vulnerability risk factors (thesis). thesis was followed a perspective shift that had scholars looking for systems' strengths addressing resources protective (antithesis), it now arrived at more mature complex outlook, elements both traditions not only acknowledged but honored (a synthesis in working progress).
