Importance Falls constitute a significant public health concern worldwide and have been associated with increased morbidity mortality across all ages. Identifying potentially modifiable risk factors for falls is key priority. Literature surrounding the association between hearing loss (HL) remains inconclusive. Objective To conduct systematic review meta-analysis to comprehensively synthesize evidence impact of HL on falls. Data Sources PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library from database inception through April 9, 2024. Study Selection Observational studies investigating were selected. Only reporting covariate-adjusted estimates included minimize confounding. Extraction Synthesis Two independent reviewers evaluated eligibility, extracted data, assessed bias studies. Using random-effects model, adjusted pooled in meta-analyses. Heterogeneity was using subgroup sensitivity analyses, publication assessed. Main Outcomes Measures The cross-sectional odds longitudinal among patients compared those without HL. Results A total 5 071 935 participants 27 studies; approximately 49.2% female, 14 conducted Asia, 7 North America, 3 Europe, Oceania, represented by Australia. Patients exhibited an (odds ratio, 1.51; 95% CI, 1.37-1.67; I 2 = 64%) (risk 1.17; 1.06-1.29; 69%) than Further stratification self-reported or validated assessments, fall duration, continent, community-dwelling adults, adjusting other sensory deficits identified as World Guideline did not change significance. These results remained robust absent. Conclusions Relevance This found that overall, may be factor With rapidly aging global population, it crucial acknowledge concerns consider if could factor. Nonetheless, further randomized clinical trials are needed elucidate any benefit treating prevention.

Objectives: The World Health Organization estimates that 25% of older adults worldwide have disabling hearing loss. Although aids are the conventional management strategy for this condition, rate abandonment these devices is high. Consequently, evidence has explored whether toward loss and associated with speed (i.e., hazard) at abandon their time. Our primary objective was determine both risk timing abandonment. Abstract Background Hearing loss in older adults affects general, generic health-related and disease-specific quality of life (QoL). The conventional strategy to address it is through hearing aids, which have been shown improve QoL. However, the long-term results regarding general are unknown, communication problems stigma associated with may persist. An effective intervention these group programs, most notably Active Communication Education (ACE). This program has increase strategies reduce activity limitations participation restrictions. These precedents allow us hypothesize that this could Methods A randomized clinical trial was conducted on 114 adult aid users. Fifty-four subjects composed received ACE program, while 60 control an informational-lectures type intervention. WHOQOL-BREF questionnaire used measure Measurements were taken before right after intervention, follow-ups at 6 12 months. Hearing loss is a prevalent sensory impairment that affects significant population, particularly in the elderly. It has been identified as one of most common chronic conditions among older adults, with profound implications for their physical and psychological well-being. Presbycusis, another name age-related hearing loss, degenerative disorder frequently linked to normal aging. As population continues age, understanding impact on various aspects health becomes increasingly important. In recent years, research shed light connection between balance problems, well an increased risk falls elderly population. Age-related hearing loss is a risk factor for mobility problems and falls, possibly due to poor access spatial sounds or the higher allocation of attention required listen, thereby reducing cognitive resources support mobility. Introducing stabilizing load through aids could improve balance performance; however, evidence mixed. Few studies have evaluated effects on during realistic, multisensory, dual-tasking conditions. This study used virtual reality simulate listening-while-balancing task in 22 older adults with normal aid users, tested their versus off. Participants performed competing digits listening (two, four digits) standing postural task, alone combination (dual task) under different visual, postural, acoustical loads. Listening accuracy outcomes (centre pressure mean velocity, anterior–posterior standard deviation, medial–lateral deviation) were collected. Other factors related complexity conditions (i.e., listening, demands) differently influenced posture individuals without loss. Overall, these results contribute our understanding how age-related affect balance-related complex, multitasking
