Research examining the associations between major life events and personality trait development is mixed. Work that evaluates perceptions of how those are themselves associated with traits may help clarify existing literature. We used a large student sample ( N = 1,509) demographically diverse from Qualtrics panel 552) to conduct exploratory analyses big five events. Results suggested (a) beliefs about event-related change differ students more representative samples, (b) event often nuanced, (c) not merely proxies for traits. These studies highlight importance subjective in study personality.

Research on post-traumatic growth (PTG) has been compromised by methodological limitations. Recent process-oriented accounts of personality suggest, however, that positive changes may occur through short-term (i.e., state-level) in PTG. In the current year-long study, 1,247 participants provided weekly reports significant negative events as well state manifestations PTG (up to 44 assessments per individual; 34,205 total). Trait eudaimonic well-being (EWB) were administered at intake and Weeks 45 52. Experiencing life predicted increases PTG, which turn EWB. However, stability was observed when modeling prospective overall before after initial event or across all occurring during study time frame. These findings highlight importance studying PTG-related processes using appropriate research designs, analytic strategies, frames.
