Abstract Research suggests that level of democracy among countries is associated with the characteristics their citizens. A critical question whether types government (e.g., autocratic vs. democratic) are linked to specific personality dispositions its citizens, and wellbeing. We addressed this a sample over 200,000 persons from 75 countries. Using structural equation modeling strong measurement invariance approach we tested association between national status (i.e., autocratic, hybrid, flawed democracy, full democracy) citizens display socially aversive (malevolent) versus affiliative (benevolent) dispositional traits. As governments varied there were lower malevolent traits higher benevolent Further quantitative index predicted traits, while only strongly related The findings highlight links how democratic practices might influence

Abstract Past research indicates that both genetic and environmental sources contribute to two core dimensions of individual differences in socio-political attitudes: Right-Wing Authoritarianism (RWA) Social Dominance Orientation (SDO). However, less is known about between the variance RWA SDO, how these vary by age. Based on data from 1440 twin families including 1198 complete pairs, 435 non-twin full siblings, 2016 parents twins German TwinLife project, nuclear family modeling (NTFM) was used estimate different components examine extent which across three age cohorts (average 15, 21, 27 years). We hypothesized increasing levels cohorts, reflecting more active genotype-environment transactions with development, declining passive correlation. The results showed some regarding SDO. stronger effects shared due intergenerational non-genetic transmission offspring, covariance additive declined while nonadditive increased. For were generally negligible, tended increase cohorts. These findings only partially consistent our expectations. Counterintuitively, influence within-familial factors larger adulthood than adolescence. are discussed against a background developmental theories potential cohort differences.

This article reviews integrates research on the psychology accent experiences. We first examine social communicative meanings for individuals. Specifically, we discuss as cues frame‐switching how switching, form frame‐switching, facilitates communication. Next, experiences shape attitudes. analyze both positive outcomes, such increased acceptance diversity, negative reinforcement hierarchies. conclude by outlining promising avenues future enhance our knowledge diversity experiences, with goal encouraging systematic exploration this important understudied topic.

ABSTRACT Objective Most prominent theories of authoritarianism maintain that it is deeply tied to threat, and yet few large‐scale cross‐cultural tests have evaluated this link. Furthermore, there are ongoing debates about (a) the degree realistic (versus symbolic) threats predict (b) threat–authoritarianism link occurs across political spectrum. Method To fill in these gaps, present study 84,677 persons from 59 nations while measuring multiple different types employing a relatively ideologically unbiased measurement (autocracy support), ideological controls/moderators. Results Multilevel models revealed threat predicted autocracy support both WEIRD non‐WEIRD countries around world, although effect was significantly stronger nations. for left‐ right‐wing persons, persons. Conclusions These results provide largest multinational test date on offer numerous advances over prior research topic. Abstract The attachment and caregiving domains maintain proximity care-giving behavior between parents offspring, in a way that has been argued to shape people’s mental models of how relationships work, resulting secure, anxious or avoidant interpersonal styles adulthood. Several theorists have suggested the system is closely connected orientations behaviors social political domains, which should be grounded same set familial experiences as are different styles. We use sample Norwegian twins (N = 1987) assess genetic environmental relationship attachment, trust, altruism, right-wing authoritarianism (RWA), dominance orientation (SDO). Results indicate no shared overlap ideology, nor even ideological traits, challenging conventional wisdom developmental, social, psychology. Rather, evidence supports two functionally distinct systems, one for navigating intimate (attachment) hierarchies (RWA/SDO), with traits within each system, linkages trust altruism. This counter-posed theoretical perspectives link through early relational experiences.
