Relationship theorists posit that children’s daily interactions with others are the foundation of their overall relationship quality (Hinde, 1979); however, few studies have tested this proposition. Warm sibling relationships a positive impact on social-emotional adjustment, making it important to consider how features may be linked bonds. This study investigated connection between global aspects (i.e., warmth, conflict) and focal child’s reports sibling; latter did not participate. Thirty-three early adolescents ( M age = 11.5 years; 14 girls, 19 boys) completed diaries regarding (e.g., helping) negative fighting) interactions. Participants Sibling Questionnaire (Furman & Buhrmester, 1985) assess levels warmth conflict. Results provide new insight into dynamics For example, being happy was most closely associated frequent helping strongly lower On days in which children reported more interactions, they also fewer When participants behaving positively toward any given day, reciprocated behaviors. Global conflict moderate these associations. Our findings help support theoretical notion linked, but interchangeable, quality. Future research is warranted further elucidate forms siblings.
