Professor Wen-Tsai Wang, an Academician of the Chinese Academy Sciences (CAS) and a distinguished plant taxonomist from Institute Botany, CAS, passed away on November 16, 2022. We honour life legacy great botanist, former Editor-in-Chief Acta Phytotaxonomica Sinica (now Journal Systematics Evolution), beloved mentor numerous students in taxonomy. Wang was born Jinan, Shandong Province, China June 5, 1926. He graduated Beijing Normal University August 1949, then worked as teaching assistant same university. In March 1950, he went to newly established Plant Taxonomy (predecessor Botany), research assistant. served director Botanical Society 1962 1983, became deputy secretary-general society. From 1982 1988, Sinica. professor 1982, elected be academician CAS 1993. After working Taxonomy, began his career studying Boraginaceae Rubiaceae. 1950s, participated compiling Flora Illustralis Plantarum Primarum Sinicarum Proteaceae, Ranunculaceae, part Fabaceae (Proteaceae Ranunculaceae were not published). joined many field expeditions Hebei, Guangxi, Jiangxi, Yunnan provinces collect specimens (Hu, 2007). 1958, suffered severe malaria during work Xishuangbanna southern Yunnan. Microtoena wawushanensis , a new species from Sichuan, China, is described and illustrated here. The closely related to M. moupinensis prainiana but differs distinctly both in leaf, calyx bract morphology. It further distinguished by its highly variable unstable tooth ratio (1.36–2.13), red-marked lateral lobes on the lower corolla filaments that are barbate at upper basal parts, with nearly imperceptible hairs middle section. Phylogenetic analyses, based 81 coding regions of chloroplast genome, suggest belongs sect. Delavayana sister clade formed urticifolia megacalyx .
