This study aimed to determine the frequency, type, and correlates of a broad spectrum sleep disorders in adults with COVID-19 up 32 months after infection. We conducted national online survey (Jun 2021-Dec 2022), gathering information on diagnosis, acute disease course, subsequent development from 1507 respondents (mean age 44.5 ± 13.1 years, 64.1% women).81.3% (1223) reported at least one difficulty that either worsened or first appeared COVID-19. Females higher number symptoms (2.03 1.44 versus 1.72 1.43 men, p < 0.0001). Most common were insomnia (59.4%), followed by night sweats (38.4%), hypersomnolence (33.3%), vivid dreams nightmares (26.4%), restless leg syndrome (RLS) (22.8%), sleep-related breathing (11.1%). All associated more severe disease. A mild decreasing trend persistence longer latency since infection was observed, 66.7% reporting half their present 3-5 infection, compared 64.9% 6-8 months, 62.4% 9-11 (p = 0.0427). However, among those 12 over persisted 69.5%. The frequency increased association 32.9% 0.001). 9.4% (141) new-onset parasomnic manifestations infection. Our research shows disturbances are persistent manifestation affects large proportion population deserves careful monitoring.

Isolated REM sleep behavior disorder (iRBD) carries increased risk of neurodegenerative parkinsonian or dementia (NPD) but is difficult to accurately screen for in the community. Health care data offer opportunity identify large numbers iRBD cases among outpatients. We aimed determine positive predictive value (PPV) an RBD

ABSTRACT Background REM sleep behavior disorder (RBD) is an early manifestation of alpha-synucleinopathy in many cases. Dream enactment (DEB), the clinical hallmark RBD, has etiologies and cannot be used alone to predict underlying alpha-synucleinopathy. We compared proportion people with alpha-synucleinopathy, as measured by CSF alpha-synuclein seed amplification assay (CSFasynSAA), between polysomnographic-confirmed RBD (RBD-PSG) who reported DEB on a questionnaire were further selected smell testing DAT-SPECT. Methods Participants enrolled Parkinson’s Progression Marker Initiative (PPMI) ≥60 years old without diagnosis disease. had either RBD-PSG or self-reported DEB. Self-reported participants have hyposmia (<10 th percentile for age/sex) at least mild DAT-SPECT abnormality (<100% age/sex-expected). CSFasynSAA (DEB+Hypos). also underwent DAT-SPECT; we determined predictive value these tests regards CSFasynSAA. Results was positive 171/240 (71%) %) 180/210 (86%) DEB+Hypos participants. Among RBD-PSG, strongly predicted CSFasynSAA+ (PPV: 92% [95% CI 87%-97%]). Smell identification more accurate than predicting (AUC UPSIT: 0.89 0.84 – 0.94]; AUC DAT-SPECT: 0.65 0.58 0.73]). Conclusions may effective scalable method identify among those individuals diagnosed PSG, improved prediction biomarker.

This chapter provides a broad perspective on the pandemic's effects sleep and sleep–wake behavior in general population. Studies these topics are currently largely cross-sectional national online survey studies or small patient-sample studies, except for few multinational large-scale by an international collaboration initiative ICOSS. Changes during COVID-19 pandemic included prominent delays bedtimes wake-up times, increased duration, overall increase problems. Insomnia symptoms, dream recall frequency, dream-enactment behaviors, nightmares were prevalent pandemic. Mental health symptoms problems reflected as decrease quality In this chapter, we consider differences between circadian types sleep. Of different types, many small-scale one study showed that schedules delayed, especially among evening-types, who also reported duration. Evening-types had, lockdown, opportunity to break away from misalignment of their natural diurnal rhythms choose more aligned with rhythms. However, since evening-types at risk mental issues already before pandemic, flexibility everyday life did not override negative An large population sample showed, disturbances poor emphasized moderated financial suffering time spent confinement.
