Abstract Researchers have established that dreams are intensely social and populated by diverse characters, including important figures from the dreamer’s daily life. This study examines types of characters appeared in participant over two weeks. We found majority include strangers addition to known individuals, personality measures impact likelihood dreaming about different people. Appearance individuals life was assessed comparing dream reports core support networks participants diaries. relationship-specific variables interaction were predictors network appearances. While generally increases appearances, this effect is reversed for family members like parents or siblings, indicating may play a compensatory role maintaining relationships with close others when they not present.
