Abstract In this introduction to the special issue, we first present a brief historical overview of sociocultural theory (SCT) as it has been extended process second language (L2) development and instruction, beginning with two significant publications that appeared in 1994. early years, was used lens understand various aspects learning instruction. Eventually, came be means promoting processes investigates. As explain article, shift research orientation reflects Vygotsky's commitment unity practice. We then address problem associated term “sociocultural,” which since inception L2 informed by theory. This is followed presentation four central principles theory, contextualized within discussion dialectics, foundational methodological approach adopted Vygotsky formulating higher psychological functioning. Abstract In this study, the knowledge tracking model and dynamic cognitive diagnostic method are used to assist English reading teaching so as achieve purpose of personalized learning for students. The article carries out a research design after proposing strategies, then designs an IRT-based by combining IRT DKVMN models. It also combines CF-DKD with internal laws such forgetting key-value memory network, proposes diagnosis based on factors through two gate mechanisms diminish enhance repetitive memory. Writing is a productive language skill that difficult to improve and derive confidence from. Despite the abundant studies on product, process, or genre approaches teaching writing teachers’ feedback, there paucity of research into English as foreign (EFL) students’ responsibility for improvement diagnostic assessment feedback. The present study employed an action approach explore role in promoting Chinese upper-intermediate EFL learning autonomy. Questionnaires, reflective journals, portfolios were utilized elicit data, which analyzed within Benson’s three-dimension autonomy framework. It was revealed impacted all dimensions autonomy, helping students form realistic perceptions their abilities, formulate approachable remedial goals, select appropriate methods content, monitor processes, evaluate outcomes. also found teacher interventions could significantly enhance management. This highlighted tested feasibility adopting facilitate autonomous learning.

English as Foreign Language (EFL) learners’ cognitive processes have been a research focus in listening assessment. Most studies use correct responses data, but undervalue the rich information of incorrect answers or options (in case multiple choice questions, MCQ). However, MCQ distractors are often intentionally designed to reveal problems barriers. In order diagnose EFL barriers through responses, Cognitive Diagnostic Models (CDMs) for bugs were adopted, hence name Bug-CDMs. First, five barrier attributes identified and two Bug Q-matrices developed comparatively analyze learner’s with different The results revealed that Bug-GDINA was optimal model, most prevalent semantic understanding vocabulary recognition. These confirmed both compensatory non-compensatory relationships causing comprehension failures. study proved feasibility diagnosing from responses. Limitations suggestions further also proposed.

Abstract The gaps both in east-west China and urban-rural development affect English education northwest rural areas. Reading comprehension, as the foundation for secondary school students’ overall development, is need of tailored mediation. Level 3 China’s Standards (CSE3) can be used to inform Dynamic Assessment (DA) test items mediation model. With CSE3-based reading materials DA model, current study applied five sessions one-on-one an experimental group. Results show that group outperformed control inferencing main idea, though not at level. Microgenetic analysis their reciprocity types frequencies reveal expansion Zones Proximal Development (ZPD) reading. among first attempts bring CSE3 into model EFL learners solve difficulties.
