ABSTRACT The ongoing regional nursing shortages in the United States, exacerbated by COVID‐19 pandemic, compromise patient safety and quality. Additionally, an aging workforce coupled with population requiring more care services limits organizations’ ability to adequately staff their facilities. Nurses’ turnover from profession has been studied less than organizational turnover, thus, purpose of this integrative review is identify factors associated intention leave States. Using Whittemore Knafl's (2005) guidelines for methods, we conducted systematic searches CINAHL, PubMed, Web Science July 2024. There were 39 peer‐reviewed studies that met inclusion criteria. Synthesis findings resulted four individual work‐level themes intent profession. Individual included beliefs, health wellbeing, work experiences, career stability. Work‐level job characteristics, demands/workload, resources support, environment. Notably, job‐level (i.e., workload, environment, support) professional intention, which suggests nurses do not believe experiences will improve at another job. Gaps literature include nationally representative samples, using validated measures health, qualitative aim understanding why want To promote retention level, organizations should measure modify relevant factors, protection nurses’ wellness be a top priority.
