Microbiome science as an interdisciplinary research field has evolved rapidly over the past two decades, becoming a popular topic not only in scientific community and among general public, but also food industry due to growing demand for microbiome-based technologies that provide added-value solutions. expanded context of systems, strongly driven by methodological advances different -omics fields leverage our understanding microbial diversity function. Environmental abiotic stresses challenge food security by depressing crop yields often exceeding 50% of their annual production. Different methods, including conventional as well genomic-assisted breeding, mutagenesis, and genetic engineering have been utilized to enhance stress resilience in several species. Plant breeding has partly successful developing varieties against owning the complex genetics traits narrow base germplasm. Irrespective fact that can transfer gene(s) from any organism(s), transgenic crops become controversial mainly due potential risk transgene-outcrossing. Consequently, cultivation is banned certain countries, particularly European countries. Summary The frequency and severity of drought are increasing due to anthropogenic climate change already limiting cropping system productivity in many regions around the world. Few microbial groups within plant microbiomes can potentially contribute towards fitness their hosts under abiotic stress events including water deficits. However, communities complex integrative work considering multiple co‐existing organisms is needed better understand how entire microbiome responds environmental stresses. We hypothesize that deficit will differentially shape bacterial, fungal, protistan composition influence inter‐kingdom interactions rhizospheres corn sugar beet. used amplicon sequencing profile beet grown irrigated conditions. treatment had a stronger than host species on bacterial composition, whereas opposite was true for protists. These results indicate different kingdoms have variable responses factors.
